My Thai Discovery Journey

My Thai Discovery Journey

Hi All,

Two weeks ago I decided that I needed to step outside my comfort zone and change my scenery by heading over to North Thailand for a month. It’s not a completely new experience as I have been in this area before but this time I will be there for longer, will venture further afield and will travel alone.

I am excited by this journey and intend it to be one of self discovery as much as absorbing the culture of this beautiful and friendly part of the world. My daily Yoga sessions and a Meditation Workshop have prepared me to be at peace with myself and being in this new environment will further facilitate a sense of calm as well as enlightenment.

I invite you to share my journey. I intend this thread to also serve as a travel diary and will post some pics.

I have woken early and am thinking about the last minute things that need to be done. Tonight I will be sleeping on a plane (hopefully as it’s not the easiest way for me to get rest) and come morning, I will be in a different country.

This trip is meant to be one of simplicity. I am taking just a carryon bag and won’t be partaking in the usual touristy types of things. I won’t to live the life there and am open to whatever unfolds. I have booked the first couple of nights accommodation and then will play it by ear.

So come along and let the adventure begin.

Re: My Thai Discovery Journey

@soul - what a sudden and awful end to your holiday.
I'm glad you did get the insurance company to fly you home - especially as the injury was worse than they first suspected.
It's very frustrating and depressing to be restricted in movement and what you can not do with your arm in a sling. But stay strong. The surgery will be here soon.
Try and get those negative thoughts to shut up. You're in pain. You don't need those thoughts as well bringing you down.
Rest up. Take gentle care of yourself. Thinking of you. ♥

@soul I'm so sorry to hear what's happening, things were going so well. I haven't been online much so just caught up thanks to @Former-Member tag. The 'alone' feelings are so hard specially when physically hurting also. Thinking of you at this time sending warm thoughts. Will keep an eye here checking on progress. So very sorry your last week was snatched from you. 💗💗💗

Ahh @soul - so sorry to read of your accident and the unfortunate sudden end to your holiday. It's hard having to endure all this pain, surgery etc on your own. This makes it all the more traumatic. Can you arrange any follow up care? This is important I feel. There are organisations that offer this at little to no expense depending on circumstances. Do you know of any? My husband had shoulder surgery and I know how hard it can be. I am worried about you.

The first three weeks of your holiday was magic, we all had such a good time following your adventures. Hang on to those good memories to help you through this bad time. Wish I could do more. Will be thinking about you on Tuesday hoping with everything for a good recovery for you. Sending a warm hug xx

Re: My Thai Discovery Journey

Thanks for the well wishes. Can really use some right now. I was doing so brilliantly, gaining confidence and was extremely healthy but now it seems to have all come crashing down. Have no appetite. Food makes me nauseous but I have to eat to take tablets.

Two more days of this until I get the surgery. My arm is a swollen bruised mess. Just taken some more pain meds. I wish I could just sleep the time away. Looking forward to the general anaesthetic.

My real life support system has dried up. I don’t like asking for help, have always been the one who does the helping.

Maybe I should have stayed in Thailand and hired a sweet young Thai girl to look after me for a bit. They are beautiful people. My hair hasn’t been washed for a week. Neither have I had a shower.

Meanwhile you all probably have your own problems to deal with. Wonder how it works? Who gets to have a nice pleasant life?

Hopefully a year from now, I can look back on this and things will be better. 2017 hasn’t been so great for me.

@soul ...

Feeling for you... it is hard at the best of times feeling alone but when we really need someone to hold us and comfort us so much harder. Thinking of you as you work through this current trial.

Re: My Thai Discovery Journey

@soulI have only just read your bad news.

What a horrible ending to a well planned trip. There are simply things we cannot forsee and you were on the cautious ecological mode of transportation.

There are pros and cons of rehab in Thailand and here.

Dont let your demons talk you down. The only option is to nurture your self care genie.

I went to visit all my relatives in hospital or brought them to appointments like you. When my neck and bad started going bad there was noone for me. Mother came to one appoitnment ( out of hundreds) It was out of nosiness more than care.

Now I am in a better position than 15s year ago. Take quiet dignity in being a walking wounded and dont let others lack determine your self worth.

A Self Care Genie

Re: My Thai Discovery Journey

oh @soul

am so upset to hear about such an ordeal and the time it took for you to have pain releaf...

furthermore discovery of the injury and extent of the damage...surgery and recovery time...

of course you miss your mum ....our basic instinct kicks in when we feel that we are all alone and in so much pain.,

memories of your time with your mum are still there for you when you are able to tap into them...

the forum is here for you in the meantime....during and afterwards...ongoing..

not quite the same....a different aspect...perspective towards how we thought our lives would be..

wondrous all the same in my book...

@soul you have been and still are a treasure on here....

now you are able to tap into the forums for you....hard is it not???>?

very hard when you are used to being there for others....yes...

you can let go a little though...there are so many here to catch you.....

you are safe with all of us who value you here....

trust....
