My Thai Discovery Journey

My Thai Discovery Journey

Hi All,

Two weeks ago I decided that I needed to step outside my comfort zone and change my scenery by heading over to North Thailand for a month. It’s not a completely new experience as I have been in this area before but this time I will be there for longer, will venture further afield and will travel alone.

I am excited by this journey and intend it to be one of self discovery as much as absorbing the culture of this beautiful and friendly part of the world. My daily Yoga sessions and a Meditation Workshop have prepared me to be at peace with myself and being in this new environment will further facilitate a sense of calm as well as enlightenment.

I invite you to share my journey. I intend this thread to also serve as a travel diary and will post some pics.

I have woken early and am thinking about the last minute things that need to be done. Tonight I will be sleeping on a plane (hopefully as it’s not the easiest way for me to get rest) and come morning, I will be in a different country.

This trip is meant to be one of simplicity. I am taking just a carryon bag and won’t be partaking in the usual touristy types of things. I won’t to live the life there and am open to whatever unfolds. I have booked the first couple of nights accommodation and then will play it by ear.

So come along and let the adventure begin.

Re: My Thai Discovery Journey

A bit of a lazy day here in Chiang Mai. Had yoghurt and fruit for breakfast at the hotel, did some work.

I ventured out for lunch - a plate of veges and a dragon fruit smoothie served in a conical flask. Hadn’t seen that before.

In the afternoon, I treated myself to a one hour Thai style massage - 120 baht - $4.75.

Had dinner at a hip little joint that has two resident dogs - I nicknamed them Shaggy and Scooby.

Then went on to a hipper joint - The North Gate Jazz Co-op. On Tuesday nights, anyone can walk in and jam. An open type little place with crowds of people spilling out on to the footpath - very cool.

oh my goodness @soul

the picture you posted of the english jack russell could have been my beautiful .......

you are living life and I am very proud of you..

I know the feeling I had...at my age (good grief that they allow us to still travel)...it truly was as I described a magical mystery tour....

the best part was that I walked and experienced real life in the areas where I needed to reconnect...

you are experiencing real life and what a journey for you...

you are also helping and perhaps even inspiring many on here with your journal...

go @soul

xxxxx

Day 20

Another quiet day with just a massage and a walk to the South Gate for dinner. Mrs Pa, the maker of the best fruit smoothies was back after having broken her hand. Bravely she wrapped a bandage around it and soldiered on.

Apparently, she used to be an office worker until a friend left her a street stall and she has never looked back. She has the best and cheapest smoothies around and I have tasted quite a few.

I like taking different paths as I walk (thank goodness for Google Maps or I’d be lost in no time) and discovering interesting things. Must go check out this quaint little cafe/ art studio.

Day 21

Just living the life in Chiang Mai. Went to get a massage but the place I have been going to was shut. She used to say “See you tomorrow to me”

Love walking through the streets seeing cool stuff.
