@utopia I've a new found respect for you. I never knew you were a nurse. It's hard work isn't it? But very rewarding.

@Phoenix_Rising yes, beyond the 10 sessions a years. And sorry not trying to argue with you, just informing you that not all psychologists are rebated for 10 sessions a year. Not all are agreeable to the Mental Health Plan, particularly in private practice. I only know these things as I've researched it a lot for my own purposes and needs.

@Sans911 Do you know more about who rebates beyond 10 sessions a year? I am super interested to hear more about that. It must be some federal government program that I don't know about (since medicare is federal and not state, it can't be a state-specific program). It would be really interesting to get more information on that @Sans911 because there may be others here in Forum Land that have never heard of it and who may be able to access services under it.

As for whether all psychologists get the 10 sessions rebated, you are right in saying it is up to the psychologist whether they accept people under the referral scheme or not. However they are all entitled to be rebated for 10 sessions. I've never heard of a psychologist rejecting a client under the medicare scheme. Most of them love it because it means they get to see clients who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford sessions (and more clients = more money for the psychologist). I wonder what the reasoning is for those who choose not to accept clients under the medicare rebate scheme. Have any told you their reasoning @Sans911?

@outlander are you able to clarify something for me - you are presently seeing a GP, psychiatrist and psychologist - is that correct?

Re: I dont know how much longer i can go on like this

yeah @utopia thats the only side effect so im really hoping these other tablets can help somehow. its got something to do with the metabolic system. its going to take a few weeks to kick in though or at least see an effect, th psychiatrsit said theres ill get sick like i was on my previous ads. im hoping its not that bad but i need something to work as its starting to affect my physical health issues a well.

i like my working variety, im thinking i should go for my aged care nursing certficate next year. that one gets me into nursing homes but also hospitals as well so mihgt be worth looking into but i want pop to be a priority. -speaking of whihc ive got to go get my first aid updated in both elderly and normal they are about to expire so better do that again soon too!

@Zoe7 yep. i wasnt seeing a psychiatrist as regularly as my medications were going ok but im back to seeing her every 6 weeks for now as well as the gp every 2 weeks and psychologist every week.

edit: until my medications are properly sorted this will be the arrangement then itll go back to seeing gp monthly, psychologist weekly and psychiatrist every few months

@outlander just reading your last post about studying Aged Care Nursing and updating your first aid certificates and I have to say, I really admire your zest for learning. You often have difficult situations at home, but you are still striving to reach your goals... well done!

Re: I dont know how much longer i can go on like this

@Queenie i was going to take a break from studying but ive picked up another short course which is teaching adult learners and the strategies behind how we learn and think. another one from open 2 study.

yeah ive got to find my last first aid provider i cant even find the bloody certificates. i have a feeling the aged care one only lasts for 2 yrs but the other first aid goes for 3 so ill have to book in when i can.

Re: I dont know how much longer i can go on like this

@Phoenix_Rising - if you check the Australian Pyschologists website, you can put in various search terms like Medicare rebated pyschologists. It will give you a list in your area (or any other search area). There's not many in my city who do it, but you just pay the difference. Much like bulk billing GPs I guess.

As to why pyschologists wouldn't see patients on the MHP? I've no personal experience myself, I'm just guessing that maybe they have a personal preference not to. I might be completely wrong.

@outlander I agree with @Queenie. Despite everything you go through, you have tenacity and drive to do better. Keep going.

Giggle. Methinks what we have here is a failure to communicate @Sans911...something I excel at. Are you talking about psychologists who bulk bill (i.e. only charge the medicare fee) vs those who charge in excess of the medicare fee?
