@outlander It is sometimes hard finding a GP that you feel comfortable with but there is no reason that you cannot keep trying. If you can find one you like it makes so much difference. The only way to do that is to actually make an appointment and 'interview' them. Make it clear from the beginning that you are looking for a new GP to help with longer term help and support for complex physical and emotional issues. There initial reaction to such a statement will either provide comfort or let you know they are not the right person for you (a gut instinct if you like). There is no need to go into your 'story' or infact your medical history at this appointment - it is all about finding the right 'fit' for you first. Your medical records can be transferred over when you find a new GP that you like. From next year all you medical records can be accessed by any doctor you see unless you have elected to not have them accessible.

You don't 'have to' tell 'your story' in order to receive treatment. Neither my GP or pdoc know many details about 'my story' at all - all they know is there is severe, repeated and complex trauma (amongst other things) but the details of the who, what, where, how etc they have no idea of. It is not 'our story' that has placed us in this position rather the effects on us - and it is the effects that are visible now and any GP worth having will treat you and what is happening for you NOW.

It took me 19 years to find a GP that has shown the slightest interest in my mental health issues. But my current GP was sooooooo worth the wait! She has been my primary support since therapist take one dumped me almost 2 years ago.

As @Zoe7 said, all you can do is keep searching for that elusive fantastic GP. It's just the same as searching for a psychologist. - either you keep searching and hope you eventually find them, or you stop searching and thus know with 100% certainty that you won't find them. It's hard. It's so so SO hard. But the good ones ARE out there - they are just agonizingly few and far between.

You don't need to write a response @outlander - action now is what you need - you are reading our responses/suggestions but only you can act on them. As @Phoenix_Rising there are some good, even great, GP's out there (I know I am very, very lucky to have found mine) but you will not find one if you do not look - and you deserve to have someone in your corner that will help and support you.
