Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Love the idea of you sitting with the cows @Crazy_Bug_Lady.

@Former-Member Its great that you have such a good relationship with your partner and have put in hard yards to make it work. He sounds like a lovely man who works and cares for the women in his life. I know your living conditions are hard but can you look at it as an adventure ... definitely dont worry about embarrassment ... we all make compromises ... you should have seen the mess of a house I lived in while we renovated for 10 years ... I am a greenie and you make me feel guilty (well just a tiny bit) ... from my couch it sounds like a lovely sustainable 'close to nature' lifestyle. Maybe the reality is a bit too close to nature ... but look at it in a positive light ...

Sorry about your relationship with your mother ... mine was tricky too .. I should have been more wary ... it is what it is ... I am going to get my hair coloured now.

@PeppiPatty Glad your appointments and groups are working out ... youare a lovely lady and I hope that bloke of your knows it... its a great idea to start with one day off and then move up to 2 days ... before you know it your creativity will have you linked in to markets and crafty groups too.

@Mazarita Glad the social life and supports and creativity are working well.

Last night was heavenly .. dress rehearsal ... fab soloists .. little kids reading .. 2 double basses ... chamber organ .. small orchestra and brilliant trumpet playing. I felt comfortable with the singers surounding me .. had a spontaneous little boogie when the trumpets were just too gloriously rhythmic .. but will BEHAVE for the concert.

cheers Apple

Re: Night Shift

Thank you @Appleblossom - he is a good man & I know he loves me a lot. We have both worked hard to make it work. I watched a documentary the other day targeted towards environmentalists (so perhaps that means "greenies" ) - Cowspiracy. Very good - not so good what is happening to our planet though & the direction we are headed in... The only problem with sustainabily I am having is we only have room for one rubbish bin - so I don't get to recycle. The food scraps do go to the pigs & chickens though My partner tries to get me to see it in the light of an adventure too! In the last few days he has been telling me how he has worked out how to fix & renovate the shipping container cost effectively, so more room to live seems to be closer in the future now - yay!

I had an awesome yoga session today!

Soon I have to go out to met two people from Partners in Recovery - I hope it is not too draining....

I wish you could teach me to sing @Appleblossom - I have never been musical. In high school I was one of the best actresses in my year, but whenever we did school musicals my acting teacher could never give me the lead roles, because I couldn't sing well enough. I think she tried to make up for it in one of the musicals by making a segment for me to do a solo dance! (Even though I didn't have any dance training either! I just loved dancing! Now I'm too self conscious about my dancing - I do dancers pose at yoga instead, haha).

@Crazy_Bug_Lady Good that you took care of yourself & took a day off. I will try to work out the best ways to talk about eating disorder issues in non triggering ways. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who had to figure this moderation thing out!

Re: Night Shift

So after all that I ended up going to work.
I did everything I intended to do at the farm, I'll put some pics over on Friday Feast once I'm home. Then at midday I got a call asking if I could come in to work as most people had called in.
So here I am. At work. In saying that, I feel a lot less fragile than I did this morning. I know I wouldn't have been any good if I had come in to work in the morning, rather than head up to the farm.
I'll chat more after work!
Thanks for listening to me moan.

Dearest @Crazy_Bug_Lady

Im very happy that you are writing here. Please keep on writing. I always say to my oldest sons friends who were freaked out by his first psychosis....

"Whatever doesnt hurt you makes you stronger."

And it's better out than in. If you are able to write, we are here to 'listen...'

Re: Night Shift

"Cowspiracy" lol

I am not a singing teacher @Former-Member... I had to do singing as a minor part of my study and then came to love it ... years later .. as it is better for my back and neck than the piano.

I believe we ALL can sing ... but fear is a factor ... and the feeling of being exposed ... and being heard ... so typical big chicken I am ... I prefer to sing in a crowd ... though maybe you can start by doing some yodelling up at the farm.

My friend who comes to the opera now ... started singing by scream-squeal-singing into the bush ... my way was the blues moan ... Whoooooaaaaa! Nobody knows the troubles I've seen.

Dearest @Appleblossom

I so like this message....esp. I find a lot of people are insistent in talking about money matters ... they see it as a reality checking .. and maybe sometimes having a dig ... I find it best to acknowledge the topic and then move on ... find a way to directly mention money matters in a minimal way with her .. without being too defensive about living there ... maybe you can give her board from your pension .. or gently remind her if you do already.

Yes agree agree. So many people use money as their emotions. If you need a budget, lets talk about it and acknowledge that can help others get 'help.'

Everyone is poor. It can be very difficult.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @PeppiPatty,

There was a lovely poem you wrote on another thread I can't find just now. It went:

the wind blows hard against my body

emotions match the wild sea

I swear

stretch my arms up high

step forward

I will never stay still

once I was tethered

now I am free

I'm hoping you won't mind that I've made a little video to go with the poem. If you don't like it, I will make it go away. But your words stayed in my mind and inspired some creativity in me with video editing.

Re: Night Shift

I feel I have a licence to be silly and laugh ... innocent fun ... at my age .. but it is catchy ... sometimes the dear old fuddyduds in classical music really benefit from a little outrageous humour.

Have to go ... Luv to Y'all
