Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

P.s. I had anorexica in my teens & was later diagnosed with EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified). At times I have felt like I have completely recovered, but now I feel that I will never completely recover....

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member,

It's hard to do much in forty degree heat aside from stay hydrated. Watermelon and iceblocks sound like a good way to go. Sorry about your bad feelings, stay safe.

Today I've stayed inside all day. Moods have gone up and down and in between. Didn't do any exercise or anything on my daily activity list aside from making the bed and getting dressed. Slept late and sat quietly in a chair just thinking several times throughout the day. I'm processing yesterday which was a big day for me seeing both the peer worker for our first meeting (fantastic), and later the psychologist (uncomfortable with some tears). Also bought some xmas presents online for friends far from where I live, sent text messages out without reply, and had a nice phone conversation with my mum. And spent some nice moments with my partner. A kind of mixed up day here.

Recovery may not be a destination. Maybe it's more a process...

Hi @Mazarita.....

Thanks...

Yeah... 40 degree heat... need air con.... Hope this heat wave is over soon....

I managed a shower also & I just watched Inside Out...

Sounds like you needed time to process your interactions from yesterday - I find I need that too after emotional interactions...

My stomach has been sore today too.....

❤️

Re: Night Shift

P.s. I hate sending text messages and not getting a reply within apx 12 hours... makes me paranoid. I sent a message to a good friend when I was really low today & thankfully she replied. Hope you get replies soon!!

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member Sorry for your sore belly, know how that feels. How are the kittens today?

The text messages were to friends far away who I don't have a lot of contact with. I've only been slightly paranoid, wondering why I actually sent those texts anyway. They didn't say much aside from I was thinking of them.

Re: Night Shift

Kittens are happy 🙂 - it is there play time now! It usually starts at 9pm, haha. Today in the heat they slept under the lounge.

Today I wondered if I should reach out to the friend I ended my friendship with this year, but probably wisely decided not to - I couldn't think of how to put "sorry I felt hurt by you".... Hopefully you get some replies tomorrow. I'm going to go to bed & probabably lay there for an hour or two....

Thanks for the chat xx

Good to take your time with decisions like that I think. Hope you rest well @Former-Member. Cheers for the chat too.

Re: Night Shift

Glad you feel good about the peer worker assigned to you. @Mazarita

but starting anything new takes a lot of energy ... so it makes sense that you needed sitting time

I had a good "literary" day ...

tomorrow is an opera rehearsal ... and then we break til January.

Last night was my regular choir ... son went busking today ... and cooked dinner with his girlfriend.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Appleblossom,

Sounds like you are having a wonderfully creative few days then, with the added bonus of a cooked meal.

Yes, I like the peer mentor very much from just one meeting. We got on very well and even hugged goodbye. We are off to group meditation together next week. The idea is to support me in starting up new and hopefully regular activities that I will go to alone after one (or more) times with her.

Re: Night Shift

Today .. I didnt write that much .. but it was very social .. I felt my dependance on others as the trains werent operating and I had 3 different lifts ... but it all went smoothly and pleasantly.

I already knew a participant at the poetry workshop ... though didnt immediately recognise him ... he used to run a weekly poetry reading event and is a generally decent chap ...

He said he was proud that he had 4 people dealing with schizophrenia coming to his saturday afternoon for years and felt comfortable ... so there is change here and there regarding stigma ... it was refreshing for me to hear that from him ... freely volunteered.

Glad you have rapport with peer worker. A meditation group sounds good ... it is nice to be able to break the ice in a new group with company.
