Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

About Aussie Rules

It depends on what you want out of a football game - what I like is young blokes in tight shorts charging around trying to kick a ball through the goal posts - the two in the middle are goal posts and the two smaller posts on the side are behinds

Half the guys are trying to kick the ball through one end while the other half are trying to make the opposite happen

And the crowd stands around yelling a lot -

I went to the footy once - I had the best day - I yelled and screamed and really got it all out of my system - and the woman next to me ask me to keep my voice down and I looked down my nose and said

"Lady - we are at the football and this is where we release our oral aggression"

And I went on yelling - I don't like the footy much - and I had the best meat pie ever and I don't like meat pies - it was the best day ever

My team won by 2 points

@Decadian, that must have been really awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

If I ever fly to Aussie, I would check this out, for sure.

Re: Night Shift

@Decadian. I just broke out in a raucous laugh reading you're post about football. That sounds like a fabulous day. Think I'd like to be around when you let loose and let your hair down. 😄

@Mazarita I think the whole band is playing at my house for you. Good for you 😄

@Faith-and-Hope I think champagne and food with no mess to clean up and no additional costs probably ticks three pamper boxes. That also put a smile on my dial.

I was feeling pretty crappy before reading your posts. Thanks for the cheer😊💜

@Snuchu. Don't stress about the sleep. As I've been told it will happen eventually. Just don't fight it. Spend the next 24 hours gaming if you have to just try not to let yourself down by doing something to put back your recovery. Seems like you've done a good job picking up the pieces in the last 20 hours or so. Keep going. I believe you can do this 😊💜

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, thank you so much for the positive words of encouragement! That really cheered me up and it helps.

Yeah, the advice about just relaxing and allowing sleep to come whenever it happens is really good advice. I'm gonna follow that.

Re: Night Shift

Sounds like an exciting time for you @Faith-and-Hope.

I can't wait for my daughter to get married so we can shop for a dress. Hope you enjoyed the champagne!!!

Re: Night Shift

Back again a new woman: thoroughly cleansed, newly blonded, shaved and pumiced, perfumed and wearing all clean clothes. Thanks so much for getting me into this, @Former-Member! I might have done the basic shower without you but wouldn't be feeling this lovely.

@Decadian, I second that big laugh at your day-at-the-footy story! I seem to remember a day like that in my long distant teenage past, Collingwood versus someone, couldn't follow the show, we were a mile away in the stands anyway. But I too enjoyed the pie and the screaming (maybe you can tell by now I'm more arty than sporty).

@Snuchu, I'm behind you too with staying in a good place and agree that just relaxing and taking the sleep when it comes is a good idea. Hugs!

Hi @BlueBay 🙂

Hi @Mazarita

Sounds like you had a busy day!!!

I ended up buying some beautiful wool with orange, pink, brown, green tones. I have started to knit a scarf. Hubby and I took our dog for a quick walk earlier, the air is so cold and icy but nice when it hits you in the face 🙂

Cooking dinner soon. Hope you have a good night. xxx

Re: Night Shift

Hey, @BlueBay. How are you feeling now?

@Mazarita, thank you! I've been in a peaceful state of mind, but no tiredness, but that's okay.

Re: Night Shift

@BlueBay,

Not a busy day here overall but about the last 90 minutes spent pampering myself, as @Former-Member suggested we all do this weekend. Feel heaps better for it. 🙂

How wonderful that you got some beautiful wool. I love knitting but find it too expensive a hobby for me these days. Great that you went out for a walk and that the crisp air gave you a good feeling. Enjoy your dinner and I hope you enjoy your evening too. 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita @Former-Member @Snuchu @Faith-and-Hope and @BlueBay

My weekend has not been as planned. Severe back pain prevented me from doing any housework or shopping yesterday and today. Rehearsal has been rescheduled until tomorrow. I also slept quite a bit.

I think it's taking me a while to adjusting to the 10 hour days and the high volume of work which I haven't had since January. Getting back in to the swing of non stop work can be a bit challenging. Weekends are good for recharging the batteries.

Pampering? This is something I've never really done so no I haven't succeeded on this one.

Great news about the scripts @Former-Member

Weddings are sooo expensive @Faith-and-Hope My daughter got married in January. Yes we did the wedding exhibitions etc. Champers definitely counts as pampering.

@Snuchu Try to go to bed as soon as you start feeling sleepy.

@Former-Member I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. A roast sounds good. Can I come?

My apologies if I've got the names and details wrong. I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out.

Hugzzz to all
