Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, yes, he just bought me a hot mocha. 🙂 I didn't go out, though, because he said he was gonna be focused on his friend so therefore no time to talk to me, so I didn't go.

I'm about to game out with my boyfriend!

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, yeah, sometimes I find that setting goals like 'what I'm going to do tomorrow' backfires on me, like I then put too much pressure on myself and can't handle it. Ridiculous but true. I think it's a good idea to just take it one thing at a time sometimes, as you are planning to do.

@Mazarita That's a pretty cool attitude re the perfectionism thing as in to concentrate it into one spot. My perfectionism causes me to not achieve anything but I hoping to work on it if I get into art therapy. Do you get any paid freelance work now or is it more for the love of it. If too personal please don't answer.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, I do it all for love. I don't cope under pressure of just about any kind a lot of the time. Employment is out of the question. The last major breakdown I had was from a job I tried to quit for mental health reasons three times over and they tried to accommodate so much. In the end I was working only 9 hours a week from home and even then broke down under the stress. Sad tale, my working life. But at least on the DSP I can basically manage to survive and do something creative. I feel that free creative work is an valid contribution to a society that is overfocussed on money.

Re: Night Shift

hello everyone!!

I Have started my 90 days of hell, today. Withdrawal sucks, all I feel like doing is trying to sleep the day away. I'm depressed, irratable and good for nothing. I can do this though. I have no choice, as I can;t get anymore pills for 21 days. So I am not gonna just get to 21 days and then throw that clean time away. NO sir. This time I am sticking to it. Im also trying to quit nicotine and caffeine, because I have been abusing those two pretty bad, in the absence of the drug of choice. Pray for me, I'm not sure if that even works, but i could use all the help i can get.

@Tyler77, I feel for you. I just relapsed on some bad stuff, right out of the hospital. My fault. I'm gonna kick it again.

Re: Night Shift

I agree @Mazarita. It's a good reflection on your talent that your old employer tried so hard to accomodate you. I have no idea what's in store for me when I eventually try to get back into the work force. Right now that isn't even a close option either. I get the not planning too far ahead. It only leads to disappointment and frustration for me too. But I need more than what I have currently. My outings per week usually only revolve around seeing a health professionals and the home improvement course. I know I have to expand my horizons.

my son has been very lucky to be able to do what he is. He added to his HELP (HECS) loan to go. Prague is very cheap to live and he still receives youth allowance whilst he is on exchange from his Uni.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Tyler77, way to go on picking yourself up again and starting the process over. I really admire your dedication. Don't worry too much if you feel good for nothing at the moment, it will get better. Maybe sleeping is not such a bad thing to do while you are going through the worst of it. Do you have any techniques like breathing exercises to help you relax when you are awake? If you like I can give you an easy one. Either way, may the spirit be on your side with this action all the way.

@Snuchu, great to hear you are going to quit again too.
