Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Do you know @Mazarita why you feel better in the middle of the night. Is it the stillness and quiet?

@Former-Member,

Wow, Prague. What an interesting place to be. How did he come to be there? Must be hard having him at such a distance. Feel free to talk about your lost feelings, if you wish. I'm here with ears.

It's crazy that I can't get myself in to the shower like this but I figure I might as well own up to it here as you can't smell me. It's been going on for years, this struggle. In more recent better times, I haven't usually go more than 2 or 3 days. Kept trying to pick myself up with some video today and tonight but even that's just not working. Can't concentrate on TV or anything else much. Bored out of my brain really. This thing of not being able to walk on the beach like I used to has got me much more housebound like I used to be a couple of years ago. But next week I have something happening out of the flat every day so I think things will pick up then.

Hey @Snuchu did you go out with your dad?

@Former-Member,

Yes, I think it is the quiet and stillness of night that I like so much. My head just feels way clearer and my emotions calmed. I have a feeling that my body is somehow just better wired for the night. Mum is a night owl too. When I was visiting a couple of months ago, we would both spontaneously wake up in the night at around the same time. Then we'd have a bit of a chat and go back to bed. They were special times with her really. 🙂

@Mazarita My son is studying over there. He has just extended until February. He's having the time of his life living in the international dorm. He is doing heaps and made heaps of friends which is fabulous as he suffered from social anxiety for a while. He was pretty much my carer when he was here as in he was always the one fished me out of hospital and was always making sure I was ok. It was pretty hard when he left but he needed to go. I am so glad he did. I never wanted him to waste away his youth looking after me

your comment being smell free on here made me giggle. It's good you have a busy week. I think it helps sometimes. Do struggle with perfectionism when you're editing?

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member,

Fantastic attitude you have to your son leaving. I can hear how happy you are for him. What's he studying? So great to hear that he has overcome social anxiety to that extent.

Yes, I am very much a perfectionist when putting together the videos. It's pretty much something you need to be to be able to do it. It does mean I go through the wringer with them a fair bit, but I'm dedicated and it may be helpful to focus my perfectionism on that one activity rather than have it spread everywhere in my life.

Glad you got a giggle out of my comment about showering. 🙂

Do you have any plans for tomorrow?

@Mazarita My son is about to travel to Malta to meet up with my parents who are travelling in Europe and my brother who lives overseas. He is then going to back pack through Italy Croatia and work his way back to Prague and then hitchhike through Scandinavia whilst he is on his summer break over there. Not bad hey😊💜

@Mazarita My son is studying a double degree in mechanical engineering and computer science. He will still have 2 years to go when he gets back. I'm really proud of him. He was challenging as a teenager but has grown into an awesome adult. I am just going to continue plodding in the new house doing one thing at a time.
