Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi everybody

I am in a topsy turvy sleep cycle at the moment. Woke up with strong dream ... need to get up early for tomorrow I have a shakespeare reading where ...I have 3 non-speaking parts ... a Lord, a soldier, and a messenger.

But I also have a female role in one scene where I have a convoluted spiel to deliver about ... enticements ... men of lust and being caregful about maidenheads ...

Made Mexican with whole wraps and tofu and butter beans tonght ... son went to bed before dinner but had scoffed all the chocolate ... so I had a few hours with his girl ... made her crack up with practising my "AllsWell Ends Well" line ...."Need I advise you ..." and we did some prep for the January Opera program

All 3 of us are going tomorrow.

Sounds like some of us are have thunderstorms and others 31 ...

Re: Night Shift

Shakespeare as well, @Appleblossom! I once played Helena in a community theatre production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' but can't remember any of the lines now. We had a threatened severe thunderstorm here that seems to have dispersed. We've had quite a few rolling around lately and some very heavy downpours. The daytime air is misty with sea spray and humidity.

Oh I am no actor ... and we dont need to learn lines ... just a rehearsed reading ... from a script.

I just like to be surrounded by the language and there are good people in the society ... its affordable ... and son was talking about opera so I though he better get a bit of lit ... and experience on a stage ... as a back up ... and socialise that is where he met his girl.

Re: Night Shift

Rehearsed reading would involve some acting skills anyway so good on you. It's a great idea to have a reading group. I can also see the benefit to your son. Cool that he met his girl there.

Re: Night Shift

Are you ok after the party ... I guess even if know people it is easy to upset people and some have very short fuses ... he didnt get too angry with you did he?

Re: Night Shift

There's a part of me that thinks I don't belong there at all anymore. We were neighbours for several years and it was a different dynamic when it was all so close to home and safety. He did get verbally aggressive towards me tonight and did a few things that were pointed expressions of his disapproval. Enough to make me cry. It didn't happen tonight but the other time he got angry with me, he physically lurched at me while I was sitting in a chair. Partner was there but didn't see anything too extreme in what happened. I still think I might give it a bit of a rest for a while.

From 16 -21 I was in a similar social envirnonment ... I really wouldnt cope at all with the camraderie these days .. my physical health is far too delicate for banter ... I am only really up for a gentle smile across a room and an occasional chat ... just do the music or the reading etc ... be friendly and pleasant .... and thats all I can cope with .... I hope the guys appreciate the harmonising your presence would give to their situation ... stop it from getting too raunchy .. you probably keep them a bit civilised.. without even meaning to.

Re: Night Shift

It's not a social situation I would actively seek out. But being close neighbours for a long time we all became friends in a matey way. Thanks for the thought about the harmonising. There may be some truth to that. These guys do get grumpy with each other and I've seen it get slightly hairy between mates at that house at least one time. Doesn't usually happen when I'm around though.

Re: Night Shift

Listen to your instincts ... you dont need that kind of thing .. your partner might be a bit blinded being a a guy an not realising how sensitive you are ... and then in other circumstances guys acan over react and get all testosterone fueled arguing about this and that

Often another's aggression is more a sign of their issue ... sorry he upset you ...
