Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

I agree @Mazarita

There is integrity in just being sad when you are sad .......

You said it better than I did.

❤

Re: Night Shift

@Faith-and-Hope you said it fine too. We can't be on the same wavelength at every moment and that's okay as well.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita. I've been thinking about your post on and off all day. I have refrained from commenting yet because I've been so off in the last couple of days and wanted to send a more thoughtful reply. You touched on some things that made me think deeply about life. This is all a long winded way of saying that I'm thinking of you and sending hugs and best wishes. 😊💜💐

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member it seems we are both having some off days at about the same time. I hope I haven't disturbed you or others with my post on the 'Writing as Therapy' thread. A reply is not necessary really, as it was more just a monologue to release some deeper spontaneous reflections. But I am interested in any thoughts that arose for you if you wish to share them. Thanks for thinking of me. Thinking of you too. Hugs and well wishes warmly received and reciprocated. 🙂

Hi @plasmo. I'm about to head over to the Friday Feast. Will you be joining us tonight?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita. Nothing you said sparked anything bad just philosophical. I guess the first thing that came to my mind was a bit of a sliding doors thing. I realised from my perspective how seemingly small things can have a big impact. My example from your writing and I hope you don't mind me mentioning it here is that if you had a positive response straight away that would have impacted your mood in the best possible way. The bit I was relating to is that the longer the feedback takes to come the more we stress and become anxious about it. Even if I was to receive the same positive feedback but quite a few days later the effect on my mood would be diminished because of the stress and anxiety and negative self talk I would have gone through in the process. I don't know if you feel this way. It made me look at this because I could see it from an outside perspective.

I also felt deeply sad (not in a bad way) that how our physical health can have such far reaching effects on every aspect of life. I think reading @Decadian's posts on this have given me new eyes and empathy on this as do yours.

I was saddened about how not everyone in Australia feels like they belong. I wish I lived in a country that was more supportive of and embraced its diversity. I wish this election was fought more on human rights, health, education, equality and the environment. Unfortunately not everyone agrees with this.

I was intrigued about the last part of your post.

Anyway I hope writing and posting it was therapeutic for you. Take care😊💜

Hiya. Is anyone around?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member,

Thanks for the reassurance. It's extremely kind of you to think so deeply about the speed of reply to posts. Sometimes I do get paranoid about messages I've left on the forum. But overall I feel basically okay with anything from an immediate response, a delayed response, a simple 'like' to no response at all. I really try not to take any of it too personally. If I allowed myself to expect any particular response from others, I would then feel that I too must be almost 'on duty' around the clock to be a caregiver here, which I think is not balanced or wise.

It's true that my physical ill health has had a big impact on my life. At the same time, I am being pretty sulky about it at the moment. It could be a lot worse and is for many other people I know. But that's one of the great things about the forum to me, being able to get the pain out there so it is not such a burden to carry inside.

I do feel fortunate to live in Australia. At the same time I feel like an outsider to many aspects of its culture. It may be the same wherever I lived. The last part of my other post referred to something that haunts me that I find impossible to talk about openly because I don't understand it properly and never have. In any case it relates to a person who is no longer alive. That kind of closes the door on it for me, though the matter does continue to trouble me regularly. The very final lines of my post meant what they said: I think about death a lot and I think about life a lot too. I am a deep thinker, sometimes to my own detriment. But it seems to be a naturally wired part of who I am so I don't think I really want to change that about myself.

The writing and posting was therapeutic. Thanks so much for your kind attention to all this rambling from me lately. I'll get back to some more helpful friendly chat as soon as my mood picks up I think. Hopefully that will be soon. 🙂
