Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

It certainly has evolved! Is this what you intended, or has it gone too much off topic and you want to pull it back on track?

My week has been great! Though I'm slightly concerned that mother nature has forgotten it's spring...

Re: Night Shift

It was on a 4am whim I started the discussion, just writing to whoever might be listening in the night. I'm really happy it's evolved into something where people can just drop in as they wish, any time of day or night. It's been awesome engaging in the chats!

Re: Night Shift

Hi Everyone,

Thank you @Appleblossom re my cats. I love cats. The reason we have so many is that my partner's mum brought them to breed from them. They are all Burmese. I would be happy with one cat... Now I feel like a crazy cat lady! My favorite is the eldest - Katniss. However, it is cute how they play tackle each other & cuddle each other... I feel hesidant to get too attached to them though. My furchild - Biscuit - died after only 6 short years in November 2013. The memory & sadness is still fresh. Then last year my mum got me a cat (I was living with her since late 2012). However, when we moved out to my partner's mum's farm we could not bring Bella. Another loss... (Matt's mum's partner hates cats - I don't trust people who hate cats.......)

I also do not have any friends to call & invite over for a visit @Mazarita & @Appleblossom.... I visit two friends when I travel back to the capital city I used to live in when I go to see my psychiatrist. I had a group of "friends" I made by joining a running group last year, but now I've moved away they are mostly just there on facebook.... I had to walk away from a friendship this year. I valued her & needed her much more than she needed me. It just was toxic.....

Hi @Former-Member,

I didn't see your cat photos last night. They are gorgeous. It is hard when we lose pets. I remember some very painful losses from when I was younger. I love cats (and dogs) but haven't had them most of my life because I've moved around too much from one rental flat to another. I have had quite a number of 'visiting cats' though, those lovely ones who come around just 'cause they're curious and like hanging out with you for a while. Losing a friend is also a painful experience, sorry you are going through this. Glad that your kittens are so lovely though.

Re: Night Shift

Oh I have been a self confessed crazy cat lady for a long time now ... we have 2 black and white long hair males ... right now .. one has his bum tucked under my arm and the laptop.

For a few years my cats tried to get my attention from books or the computer ... now they accept the computer and just snuggle in and some times stare at the screen as if they are taking it all in ...

If we are watching a movie as a fmily and the lights are out ... its so cute as the cats are usually in for it ... too.

Loss is hard ... my son and I had "Loss of the cats" conversations last year around the time my mother was dying ... I guess the cats were a bigger part of our lives than my mother ... he was almost sheepish about it ... but we also gave her a lot of respect.

Re: Night Shift

Nawwww I love all my animals. Am missing them so much, I'm staying where we are until the new year and have had to rehome my animals.!😔 it's not the same of an evening once the kids are asleep not to have a cuddle with a furball of one sort or another.

But I'm not sure if we will get any more pets either, after losing Ella last week and having to rehome my other kitten and the rabbit i don't think we can go thru that again.
Your cats are gorgeous @Former-Member!!

I'm exhausted tonight after moving and feeling really flat and low to have packed us up again and have lost a house that really was perfect for us and beautiful. Garrr so frustrated too!!
