Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@eth I want to ask questions tomorrow about what I would need to commit myself to if I go ahead with it, how long it goes on for and what the aims of the program would be with me. I also don't want to be pushed back into work. I've crashed out of jobs so many times in my life and each time it's been harder and harder to recover. I would like to move towards some kind of volunteering though, when I can engage with the outside world in a sustainable way that doesn't drive me to bipolar extremes.

@Former-Member I've been through 2 major court cases in my life so I totally understand how much it can take it's toll on you. It's like a roller coaster ride of emotions, stress, anxiety, anger. Hope you have a solicitor and doctor you can talk to. I know you can't say much here at the moment.

Re: Night Shift

That sounds like a good goal @Mazarita. Do you know what sort of volunteering you'd like to do?

Re: Night Shift

@eth I don't really have clear ideas about it. I've looked up possibilities for volunteering where I am but haven't found any that are geared towards the volunteers themselves having MI. There may be something the peer worker tomorrow can suggest that is set up with this in mind.

Re: Night Shift

I agree bulk billing does not mean lower care. I have been seeing my psych coming up for 8 yrs now...and I have managed to extend to every three weeks. YAY!!!! I to suffer insommia which fluctuates for under sleeping , of course to over sleeping at the wrong times....very frustrating to say the least. Luckily I am studying online so I can study at 3 am in the morning....By the way just because I have been with my mentor (psych) for 8 years is not a sign that that is what is in store for you...We all have different challenges and we must respect our own journeys.
I am so happy that you have found someone you connect with, this can be the most challenging hurdle.
Thank you for sharing I really appreciate your post.
Blessings
Andirose

Re: Night Shift

Hi and welcome, @Andirose. I think you were replying to an early post in this long discussion thread where I was talking about how I appreciate bulk billing psychiatrists. Glad you have had a good experience with yours. Resourceful of you to be able to adapt your sleeping habits to doing something positive like studying. I agree with you that everyone's journey with MI is different. Thanks for joining here. What are you studying (if you feel like talking more)?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth of course you didnt did anything wrong ... I had just posted about risk taking in early life and then in my inbox was something about a celebrity who was a minor part of that life .. so long ago .. that is all my "bloody hell' was about ... but it was sad as it was about the death of a 15 yo boy ... I used to take acid and jump around on cliffs down at Appollo Bay when I was 16-17 ... just having fun and getting close to nature ... I guess the doses are higher now ... and I am a VERY LUCKY person .. to have survived.

I didnt persist with deliberate rebellious activity for a long time but was curious and experimental and just dreadfully lonely.

@Mazarita thanks for your reply about risk taking ... I was wondering if it was a behaviour that did not continue do they still rate it in a diagnosis . .. good luck with Phams tomorrow.

@Former-Member Welcome ... your cats are beautiful .. my 2 cats have saved my life ... my son and I both love them.

Hi @Andirose ... it helps to hear about good experiences...
