Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hey friends,

Just checking in before I hit the sack!

Tuesdays are busy for me I work in the morning then I have yoga class and then I coach special olympics (volunteer )

I feel like I haven't the time to do a proper job.

Anyway, I seem to have stomach pain, I really hope it's not a virus 😞

Hi @BlueBay

Having been a moderator in a website in the States I can say that I was on for a good part of most days - sometimes it was busy -

I guess being on this side of the planet I was on duty when most people where asleep - but being on duty during our daytime - it was important

However - I could not be on all day every day -

But it is a good idea to know if there is a moderator on duty - I am still learning about this site

Hi @Angels333

Yes - it does sound as if Tuesday are busy and question if you are spreading yourself too thin I think

I hope that pain in your tummy is something that you did in your yoga class rather than a bug or bad food

Sleep well if possible - and I hope Wednesday is easier

Re: Night Shift

Thanks Dr @Decadian

Yes I am spreading myself thin.

Wednesday's are chaotic. I work in the morning 9 -12.30 and again in the evening 3.30 -8pm

Thursday is my day off but I go into the city to see my dr on Thursdays.

The rat race is so demanding.

That's a big problem that I can't understand. I am so busy but I continue to function okay. But when I'm in my psychiatrists office I feel like a complete wacko?
?
Why does that happen

Re: Night Shift

Hi , it been a hectic night , it was my sisters formal and getting her ready and off for the night . Now I have time to sit and just do nothing . I also started my nursing course this week, but I am reall doubting that I am going to be able to do. I feel that I am not smart enough or strong enough to do it .
I have so much on my mind I just can't sleep

How is everyone else

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Angels333

That work we do with our councellor is that hardest work we do - we have to get a big psychic pick and shovel and clear all the irrelevant stuff out of the way - and go through what's left with a tooth brush and find the tiny gems that are going to help

I get exhausted when I see my psychotherapist - but I am finding those tiny little bits buried down there under all the events of my life to nearly 70 years ago when I turned on my mother - decided I would not tell her anything about my inner life - and I was so young when I did this I often wonder how I did it -

So - you can go and work a split shift - which is tiring work on it's own - the rat race - ah - I saw a rat race once - it's a thing people do it rats to find out why humans behave as they do

Have I answered why you turn whacko when you see your psychiatrist? All the filtering the past - where it all began -

However - I am sure the psychiatrist has seen it all - I am sure they do not spend every spare moment thinking about what you said when you were there - it's what you think about what your said - and you are free to say whatever in therapy - appropriately - safe - been there

How much have I wasted my time worrying what other people thought of me - I am sure they have forgotten. People are so caught up in their own stuff - your doctor will be thinking when you are there in the office being wacko - which is a perfectly natural state of mind in these circumstances - but exhausting

I was a telephone councellor for about 2 years - less than that I think - and I can tell you that I have forgotten all but a couple of conversations - we are not made to remember everything - we need a forgettory

You are fine @Angels333 - just exhausted - certainly not wacko - how's the tummy ache

Lots of virtual hugs

Dr Decadian

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Baboo. I'm wondering if I can chat or email someone about a post I want to write but want to discuss boundaries for me and others. I don't want to discuss this online for obvious reasons. Cheers
