Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Fingers crossed something helpful comes of the psychologist referral !! And hopefully not to far from home. It's hard living in the country sometimes. You've had a big year full of changes in so many aspects of life... In a lot of ways we are a bit similar, I've moved and changed meds a lot this year, lost my only close friend - although we've reconnected a little bit lately, and had other difficult things going on. It's amazing what we can get thru.
I do the breathing when I remember but also find it hard. My psychologist asks me to breath out for a count of 4 then breath in to a count of 4 hold my breath for count of 8 and repeat 4 times. But I find it difficult. Sometimes it does help though and it at least makes you focus on the immediate surroundings.

I did finish the packing - I'm exhausted - did more today than I've done in the last month lol. House is all ready for the removalists... But I'm feeling low and depressed... Life seems to be going in circles of repeated crap from people and it just sucks to disrupt the kids again. I just want to feel settler and safe somewhere for me and the kids! Please let us stay in one place for longer than 6 months!
But we always get found 😞

Re: Night Shift

Hey Appleblossom - are you feeling a little better today? You seem so calm in rationalising or thinking through everything you are describing about yourself but I imagine under that is so much going on.
I'm glad you are able to share here and feel supported (I hope 🙃)

Re: Night Shift

I don't have much faith in psychiatry after 13 years in the mental health system. If you are interested in effective treatment for schizophrenia google and/or put into youtube "open dialouges" - In an area of Finland they have reduced the incidence of schizophrenia by 90%... their mental hospital is almost empty!

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member That sounds positive with the referral. I think you will get the phone call. If not soon I'd contact Partners In Recovery again to ask about it.

I may be over optimistic about the treatment I have received in the mental health system because I have been feeling benefits from it lately and this is probably giving me a positive spin on everything. At other times I haven't felt all that good about it at all. It's possible I'll have a different view in future.

Re: Night Shift

Hey @Former-Member... Yes, life is very hard. Moving is very difficult. Who do you get found by? Do you have an abusive ex partner? Don't answer if you can't - just concerned... My first boyfriend was abusive + add a sexual assualt from another man & thus the PTSD... 13 years ago. I was mentally ill before then, but not debilitated by it....

I feel like I'm not being very helpful to anyone else.

I feel so empty lately...

I'm glad you reconnected with your friend lisajane - I don't want to reconnect with my ex friend - it was a very toxic relationship. She was my personal trainer to start with & that is how it should of stayed. Her father had schizophrenia & god knows if she thought that meant she understood what I was going through & she could help me or what. Her actions clearly showed she had no idea of the severity of my illnesses... anyhow... I need to breathe.

I'm grateful for my kittens. Especially my favorite - Katniss.... What is everyone grateful for today? One thing is enough.

@Former-Member I'm grateful for the dawn birdsong I heard and the continued sounds of birds through the open doorway today.

I miss my animals. Can't have them here 😞 we're in a women's dv shelter for now.

I'm grateful for my children - they give me reason to keep trying.
