Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo, sounds like a good plan. I wish I could walk more at the moment but my legs are giving me trouble and if I walk much at all they ache non-stop around the clock. Trying to work out what's going wrong with the doctor, tests etc. Meanwhile it's buses for me. What else is going on with you in general at the moment?

@plasmo, I'm going offline again now to wind down to sleep. Hope the rest of your night goes okay and you get some sleep.

Hey, everyone.

I'm back on a day pass instead of an overnight pass, but that's not a big deal.

Re: Night Shift

Just saying hi @Snuchu, but I am heading back to bed too. It has been an unsettled night for me. Nice to find others dropping posts in between sleeps. Doesn't make the night quite so long ..... 💜

Hi @Kurra

I am guessing you have scholiosis - there doesn't seem to be a spell check happening here - I can't spell it either

Do you have chronic pain? - I do - it is hard to live around and I congratuate you on having a new job and understand that it can be a challenge

Sleeping is one of those problems endemic to people with pain and emotional problems whatever they are called - and I really don't know about looking at screens of whatever size or reason - but one thing that does help is keeping occupied - I have fallen asleep on my keyboard often

For sleeping with back pain - it helps to sleep on your side - and perhaps put a pillow between your legs - I have heard this helps many people - and also - it is good to sleep when you are tired - as other people suggest

imo - insomnia is what happens when people worry about not sleeping - and if people have to work or have other daytime responsibilities then that is a problem - but one thing I have found is going to be as soon as that first wave of tiredness starts - if it passes - then catch the next wave

If this makes sense - we all need sleep - but different amounts at different times

Okay = enough lessons - I wish you the best with your new job

Hi @PeppiPatty

I think there are more people who suffer from emotional distress that never admit to it - we are the lucky ones - our discomfort has drawn us to seek other people with the same spells of misery or sorrow that are common to all

Wow - you did have a lot when you seperated from your husband - were stalked and had your son in hosptial with a psychotic break - that is a lot

Separation is a hard thing alone - you might spend years knowing that you were worse off but the new life you have started has been frought with tough stuff too - how do we manage all of this?

When actually - we are the sane one! - this is why I have a battle working out what Mental Illness is

I really understand - while we are all different - I am divorced now and I was the one who took the initiative there - and I was stalked - and my son ended his life - what a load

At these times it is impossible to care much about anyone else - we need people to be kind - I try to be kind - I understand how overwhelming life can be -

So - virtual hugs are sent - and kind words - even now there must be times when you are back there - wondering - but that God we can learn skills to help others

We do need to be cared for - or feel cared for - sometimes we can only do the best to be kind to ourselves - other times - we have these forums - what a difference they make

Lots of virtual hugs - when we have been through the wringer a few times - we need to have a person who cares grab us so we can feel the world turning more evenly

I think
