Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Wait and see. Sounds like you're not commiting yourself yet, just finding out more. I'm curious to know more about it too. Haven't been able to find anything like that up here.

Re: Night Shift

I've done very little today too. Did have a lovely skype with my adult child and my granddaughter for 1 1/2 hours. Love that. Got a short nap eventually and am feeling more awake now than I did all day.

Re: Night Shift

Lovely to hear you had the Skype with your adult child and grandaughter. A nice long one too. Great that you feel awake. It's just on dusk here and I'm waking up for the evening too. This often happens. Partner used to call me 'evening girl'.

The peer worker coming tomorrow is from a scheme called Phams (Personal Helpers and Mentors). Here is a page where they list agencies that offer it in the NT:

https://www.dss.gov.au/our-responsibilities/mental-health/programs-services/personal-helpers-and-mentors/locating-a-personal-helpers-and-mentors-service

I'll tell you more about it tomorrow.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks for all your input ... much better to get it straight than watered down. @eth

Cos my bipolar uncle was better educated, shod and housed (Middle Park) than anything I had known ... I saw it as a positive to the schizophrenic options, that had been closer to home ... also more honest ... than the normals ... as they do the polits immature giggle and skitter away ...

I always think of my past behaviours that are typically denoted as risktaking ... as not in the context of risk at all ...I think of them as connecting nehaviours ... there was never a sense of safety to move into risk ... yes I got on the back of motor bikes ... took drugs ...sexual experimentation ... but I saw them as trusting behaviours ...travelled alone at a young age ... trusting that the world was not a totally bad place ... etc etc ... I still dont get my head around them as risk taking ... my siblings stayed home and they had a much worse time of it than I did .... hmmm ... so much for my cosy mother ....anyway all my risktaking that stopped in early 20s ... now I am a real chicken .... ooooh pain .... that hurts ... so does it still apply now 30 years later ... now I am burrowing in ... stressed by it all .. and tired of having to try too hard in relationships that dont go anywhere.

thats is why I guess there is a lot of co-morbidity ... or its all BS.

Anyway when talking to doctors, I will stick to my feelings and experiences over family history ...

Hi @Appleblossom, @eth I'm just going offline now to make something to eat. May well be around again later.

Re: Night Shift

Bloody hell ... after my last message ...

I read about Nick Cave's son stumbling around on drugs near Brighton.... not very cool ... very very sad.

A girl from work brought that guy came round to my place for coke ... I guess they are risk taking behaviours .. I always tried to live with courage ... I guess I just dont know the difference ...

Off to do a chicken salad ...

Hi all,

Need somewhere to talk.... Will listen to others also....

Very depressed & anxious today....

Spent 50 minutes on phone to Partners in Recovery telling my story in brief as best I could...

Didn't do much else with the day apart from put a load of washing on the line....

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth....

Was reading back a few pages & seems like 3 of you have bipolar. I have schizophrenia, major depression, PTSD & generalised anxiety. I've also had panic disorder & an eating disorder. Sometimes I feel I get hypomanic, but not significant enough to warrant a diagnosis of bipolar (although some psychiatrists have "put it out there"). I am glad I don't get manic, as I would probably be an over spender.... I'm just tired of life... really tired... I seem to get more tired as the years go by & I am only 33...
