Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Yes, it sounds like a bit of an unsettled year weather wise.

You know, when we had the golf-ball sized hail through here a few years ago, photos started to emerge if the same thing having happened in the 1940s or 50s (can't remember which).

Stories of the early settlement of Australia demonstrate unsettled weather patterns way back then too. We were taught at an early settlement education centre that when Captain Cook first arrived, it was on the back of several years of heavy rainfall, and at least along the coastlines, this country looked like the Garden of Eden. So they loaded up the ships with colonial settlers, only to arrive to several years of extreme drought.

They lost their livestock, crops failed, and it must have been the worst real estate false advertising set-up in history !! So, with people here writing back to England telling everyone they knew how awful ur was, and not to come here, some bright spark had the idea of sending all the convicts across to populate the country.

I do know in the west there is much arid land that had been allotted as farming land at the time of settlement, where you wouldn't dream of trying to farm now. Our desert areas look so amazing after a single flood season. They must have been magnificent after several very wet years.

Ahhh ..... the stories of our sunburnt country .... known for its loods and sweeping plains even back then ....

Hi @Former-Member 😊

Yeah, posting personal stuff can be a bit daunting, and you have to find a comfort level.

It all helps us to make connections and find and give support, but we won't always get it just right ....

Its great the editing tools are there.

Enjoy the football 🏉

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member I didn't think you were nosy at all, just that you cared. Because of fighting to stay on top of depression I've been making more of an effort to socialise with the few friends I have, and between that and nights of little sleep I have to make sure I have time to rest and catch up in between. Otherwise if I get too overtired it can be a bipolar hypomania trigger for me. So it's a matter of daily managment to stay on top of things.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @eth. I did mean it as caring. It's good that you know how to manage your health. I have still not worked out how to deal with my ever changing moods but am slowly beginning to piece it together. Keep socialising - it appears to be suiting you😊💜

Re: Night Shift

It would appear that I have yet again run out of dishes to clean...

Kitchen cleaned and sparkling - all bench surfaces wiped down, toaster trays emptied and all loose crumbs shaken out, toaster cleaned and polished, gas stovetop cleaned and polished, taps and sinks cleaned and polished...

Whole kitchen is in ObSeSsIvE cOmPuLsIvE oRdEr...

Hahaha...

Hey Maz - @Mazarita - nice storm over the bay here... it's so windy that a chook would lay the same egg three times...

Poor chook... giggle...

Hi @eth @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member et al...

For best results, start with a clean kitchen...

Hugs and happy vibes beaming to you all... 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita

How strong you are to write to your therapist that you intend to end your sessions with her - and wise

My psycholigist is moving back to Sydney - and I hope to finish my sessions with her before then - I don't want to start again with someone else.

But you have taken the initiative - and for whatever reason both of you will know what the story of your next session will be -

How often we either just end - or have life move us on - and whatever might have happened never does - in your case - whatever has happened in your life - maybe a breakthrough or maybe disassificaton - or whatever -

Whew - this is awesome - if disassifcation exists or misunderstandings - sometimes the provider needs to know

So it will be a few weeks - but I will be waiting to hear how things go

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth

I didn't reply earlier as I didn't have any plans at all. I have honestly spent almost the last three days in bed doing nothing, feeling rotten about not doing anything and at the same time feeling unable to do anything.

I have been getting by doing basics like washing the dishes, cooking and washing clothes.

Those things take only an hour and a half out of my day and I have not been able to do anything else.

But this morning I wondered into the backyard that was in a terrible state and I weeded the rockery, I now have a full sulu bin of overgrown garden weeds.

I do have a compost but it's totally full atm so I just had throw the weeds away.

I feel so much better having achieved something.
