Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, ah yes, us 'chunky' sleepers. Anything happening for you later today? It will be an indoors day for me, staying out of the deluge and wind.

@msbertie, I haven't driven for three years and am a nervous passenger these days. Can relate to your issue there. But 12 minutes would probably be managable for me too. Glad you at least have a little town in a reachable place. Do you know anybody there aside from the GP, chemist, psychologist?

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita That weather sounds wild. Hope it doesn't stop you from sleeping. Mum told me SEQld was expecting it but I didn't realize it would hit so soon. Hope she's ok. She lives alone in a fairly big house.

@msbertie these days there are some pretty amazing remote and rural library services. Sometimes there is a mobile one that visits a lot of small places and with them you can request any item at all in the national library network. Not sure what other possibilities are but I'm sure you could google 'remote library services' and get some ideas. If there's a community centre at the town you shop in you could ring them too and they would likely know what's happening with library services for that area.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita I have to be up at a reasonable hour and clean the kitchen before my mate comes over around 10. Nothing planned after that.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, your mum is in Brisbane I think? She's probably fairly familiar with this kind of weather from years past. I think it's just mainly a matter of staying indoors if possible. Nice that you have your mate coming tomorrow.

@msbertie, @plasmo, I think I'll take off again and try for some more sleep.

Thanks for the middle of the night chat everyone.

Re: Night Shift

3 Years is about the time since I used to drive everywhere and anywhere back where I came from in the city so yeah it sucks doesnt it I tried to drive past my 12 minute mark so past my Gp etc but pretty much had a breakdown and it took me about 2 weeks to recover especially with no meds to assist so Im in no hurry to do that again it was my second attemp in the last 12 months since I have been here so Im glad I atleast tried mind you I only manage the 12 mins one because I really have no choice and two because if I see more then 1 or 2 other vehicles on the road at the same time its a traffic jam where I am so dont fee too bad Im not doing anything too special. No I dont know anyone I literally found the place online it was cheap enough and far enough away for safety reasons and the real estate didnt need me to do a in person inspection so I did it all from my phone whilst being kept in a hotel room by safe steps and they helped me organise movers and packers etc as I have physical health problems as well I have no large bowel and a kink in my small one and lots of complications from 11 abdo operations so am a little restricted due to pain and physical restrictions as well just to add to the list lol, I dont talk to anyone other then when I go to my appt.'s so once a month or every 2 months I usually dont have a voice for the first 5 or 10 mins people at the little supermarket I go to must think I always have tonsilitis or something but its coz I dont use my voice ever anymore except then so yeah no I wish I knew someone but no but doesnt matter hopefully life wont be like this forever I was thinking about doing a course or something online with all the vet fee funded courses I get bombarded with on FB not sure if I could have the concentration for it but Im thinking about it. Tonight has been the most I have spoken to anyone allbeit online in writing for the last year as ive been here for one year next Wednesday so its great so far lol.

Hey, guys.

I'm on a day pass. 🙂

I'm feeling better and better mood-wise nowadays, but I'm still struggling with my psychosis...

How are you guys?

Goodnight @plasmo

@msbertie it's been good getting to know you a bit. I'm sure we'll chat more in coming days.

@Snuchu great to see you and that you are feeling better. Sorry to hear that the struggle continues. Enjoy your day pass.

I'd love to stick around and talk some more with you both but I really need to get some more sleep before morning comes too. I'll look for you both when I'm back on-line tomorrow.

Re: Night Shift

Good morning, @msbertie,

It's great that you have a go at pushing your envelope on how far you can go from home, even if there's some recovery time needed. Maybe next time you could just set yourself a lesser goal that wouldn't be so demanding, like driving an extra minute down the road before turning back again. Then extending that each time you get to town, two minutes the next time, and so on. I find that my boundaries are extending in small increments on various things and that these add up to bigger things over time. I haven't put this into practice on driving yet myself but it's certainly been working in getting me out of the flat over the last year to join into appointments and activities in the outside world in general.

Sorry you have such bowel problems, sounds like you've really been through it with that. I have had crohns disease for 35 years and a couple of surgeries to remove about 70cm of intestine all up. It's been treating me fairly well lately (though things are never entirely 'normal' with me in that area). But I'm very grateful for the relief from the acute stage of suffering with it. I'd be interested to hear more of your experience. Is your problem ulcerative colitis?

With your voice issues, I was wondering if you ever try singing (even in the shower). You could also try doing meditation noises, like 'om', over and over to help with exercising the voice. Advantage there is that making noises like that is often calming of anxiety too.

Feel free to totally ignore my suggestions. Just thinking of stuff off the top of my head that might improve things for you. Totally understand if you can't take up any of them for any reason. I've been through times when people suggesting stuff to me just got on my nerves so just tell me if that's the case for you and I'll back off with that stuff.

Hey @Snuchu, good to see you out and feeling a bit better again. I'm reading your other posts on the other discussion thread too but just listening to what's going on for you as I don't have much to say on it for now as it's a bit beyond my experience. So glad to hear you are on the improve though, even if things are not completely okay with you yet.

Just had another few hours sleep and woke up again, as is usual for me these days. Bad dream, really a nightmare, but on waking I feel okay anyway. Hard wind blowing all night and heavy rain here. It's definitely a stay indoors day for me!
