Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

I think I might be fading @eth. Might try for a little more sleep. Thanks for being around to enjoy the dawn with.

Re: Night Shift

I've been in this flat longer than anywhere else in my life and it's also only $87 a week because of it being a set percentage of my pension. I'd never get anything as good I don't think as here I've been allowed to stay in a 2 bedroom, ground level flat (my low vision child was here with me for several years and is still able to come home for support if needed) whereas if I move to NSW or Qld I'd only get a 1 br and all the living areas would be a lot smaller probably. I'd hate to end up in one of those large complexes with many people living so close together. I also don't think I'd cope well with going to a much bigger place and starting all over again with new medical people.

Re: Night Shift

Ok thanks again for your company @Mazarita. Wish I was fading too. Have a good day when you re-surface.

Sorry, I was saying goodbye, just as you were typing out that message. I will reply to what you say first. I'm not that tired yet. Reply coming next...

Re: Night Shift

That's a great rent and hard to part with. 2 bedrooms is a nice size for one person. So great that your child can visit too. My half share of a 2 bed flat here is $170pw. That is very cheap for what we get compared to Melbourne. I don't do well with the pace of really big cities these days. I fantasise about living somewhere quieter still but not sure if that is really likely to happen. There are downsides to it too. I fully understand about you not wanting to leave your support network up there too. I'd feel the same. These days I also think that staying in one place can help with bipolar. A move to another state and location is a big change that tends to rock our world.

Re: Night Shift

By the way, I'll stay around if you feel like continuing to chat. I've been backing and forthing in my mind about whether it's better to go to bed now or stay awake anyway. It's just after 7am here.

Re: Night Shift

I agree with you. Stability is a huge part of managing bipolar for me. Going back to open market rent would be fraught with anxiety for me. Anyway thanks for replying but I think you should listen to your body and get some more rest. I'm going to try too. Talk again soon no doubt 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita are you still up or did you get back to bed? I managed a 5 min micronap and some rest but didn't manage the sleep I'd hoped for.
