Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita, good luck with the cutting down. I gave up smoking about 10 years ago after about 10 attempts so I feel your pain with it. I've been interested in trying liquorice tea. I've only just got into trying different teas in the last month. My pain has been giving up sugar. I haven't given it up completely yet but have got rid of most of it thus trying new teas😊

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, Highly recommend liquorice tea for the taste alone. So naturally sweet and delicious. Sounds like you are going great with things really. I probably managed to cut out about 2 of about 9 I wanted to smoke yesterday by replacing with gum and coloring in. The effort seemed enormous compared to the pay off though. Also filling out a sheet from my psychologist every night to record how I've gone with this, overdrinking of coffee and tendency to isolate, as well as unbalanced eating, sleep cycles and exercise. It's got a mood chart as part of it too. It puts me in an anxious mood just filling out this sheet every night, but I'm persisting with it.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Faith-and-Hope for the info re visual memory. I am not very far into recovery as yet but I've stopped fighting everything I was for now anyway. I struggle with always being on fight or flight and I hardly live in the present. That's what I'm working on currently. Moving house has actually kept me in the present more than I've been for a very long time. There is a big park across from the new house and I'm hoping to become more active and walk my dog there. He is in desperate need of a good walk.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, moving place is an interesting time. Can be exhausting but I get what you are saying about it bringing us more into a now focus and also a fresh start which I find can be energising too. Having a park across the road sounds great.

Hi @Faith-and-Hope Here I am again, the night owl. So you are an artist, that explains the fabulous images.

@Mazarita

I agree 😊

@Appleblossom

I have been wishing you well, and good energy all week. No need to explain what you have been involved with - just the bits and pieces you have dropped into thread posts give an outline of something intense and draining.

Lots of hugs ❤️❤️❤️

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Appleblossom, have you been to sleep so far tonight? I've had about 2 hours sleep then awake again, as per my current pattern.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita. Sounds like you are working really hard on changing a few things too. I do the isolate, unbalanced eating, sleep cycles and lack of exercise too. Keep going with each step though. Seems like you are committed and doing a fabulous job with it💜😊
