Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Yep, I bet you are running on adrenaline ... I hope you find some recovery time amongst the move and boxes.

Every time I have moved house I have bought a new coffee mug. I set it up with some coffee in the house I am moving into, and pack my coffee cup from the house I am leaving last. That way I have a "port in both harbours" during the move 😊

Re: Night Shift

@Faith-and-Hope I am hanging out for down time but am coping way better just now than I thought I would. I love the port in both harbours. I have most my kitchen sorted as we moved a lot of the kitchen yesterday so that it would be a smooth transition, well that's what I hope😊

@plasmo. I think the shops are too hot too. Any exercise and I go red like a beetroot😊

Yeah, it's good for us. Glad it's something you enjoy.

@Former-Member

That sounds interesting. I hope you do get back to it. It's important to feed our soul with something that resonates with our integrity 🌷

I am a fine artist. Only a couple of images I have posted are my original artwork - acrylic on watercolour paper. The others are either generic images I have found, or ones I have dropped into an app where you can paint into them virtually with a variety of tools to re-create them as art. The app has digital effects, and negative imagery. It keeps my brain active in the painting process when I don't have the energy to pick up the real-deal materials.

Re: Night Shift

That's great @Faith-and-Hope. What app do you use? I have messed around with a few. I have never drawn before but am thinking I might have a go if can do the art therapy. I'm assuming your avatar is your own work. I find that my concentration span is so poor now that it's hard to do any of the things I used to. Hopefully that will change over time. 😊

Hi @plasmo, @Faith-and-Hope, @Former-Member, anyone else around, good to see you. 🙂

Hi @Mazarita. How are you tonight?

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, yeah okay. Was in a bit of a funk before I went to sleep. Trying to cut down on smoking tobacco gave me a hard time yesterday. Feel calmer now (after half a smoke, lol). Just got myself a liquorice tea (healthier!)

This app is called Drawing Desk. My avatar is an adaption from a "water-colour" tattoo I found online that I messed with in Drawing Desk. I could just as easily have reproduced it as a painting, but can't take direct credit for it as it is ... it does represent my taste and painting style though so I felt it represented me 😊

Just a tip re visual memory - emotional upheaval and distress impede your visual recall, a bit like drawing a blind down over your access to visual images which are your brain's primary memory storage (thinking in images occurs significantly faster than audio-sequential processing, according to available information). To put that into a nut-shell, when we are upset we get brain fog and short-term memory issues making us feel forgetful and a bit inept.

That's where all your coping strategies of breathing deeply, taking a walk, drinking tea, chatting with a friend etc come into their own - reducing the stress load improves visual memory and your overall sense of well-being. It's a recovery cycle, as opposed to a vicious cycle when it's spinning the other way. If you recognise the signs and take action over it, you can consciously drive that recovery process.

Hi @Mazarita 😊
