Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

I had a high school teacher many years ago. He was one of my favourite people. If a student was misbehaving, he would punish them by making them write a 100-word essay discussing the insides of a snowball...

If they were really naughty, he made them write a 100-word essay on the insides of a ping pong ball... 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Snuchu how are you going now? Did you eat that pizza? Looking after our nutrition is one of the self-care things that really help keep us a bit more stable in my opinion. Maybe by now you are asleep with a full tummy. Hoping your night is better than your day was and that tomorrow is better for you too.

Re: Night Shift

It would appear that I have run out of dishes to clean again...

Hiya @eth - nice snooze?

Re: Night Shift

Great snooze thanks @Silenus It took 4 shorter sleeps but I ended up with 8 hours all together - a record for me for a few months now. So maybe things are starting to improve.

How are you today? Want to do some cleaning at my house?! Another thing I can't get motivated about. Just keep it looking basically ok but close inspection it would not bear.

Re: Night Shift

And that's all that is needed @eth - basically ok is alright by me... 🙂

I get all Zen about doing the dishes. It's about experiencing and enjoying everything I do in life to the fullest...

As far as I know, we only get one shot at life. It seems a pity to waste all of that precious time on feeling bad...

Here is this job that needs doing. I can approach it several ways - as a chore, or as a delight...

I choose the approach. Little old me, with all this power to choose. Of course, I choose delight, and so the chore is transformed into a delightful experience by the alchemy of my thoughts...

This power we each have in our lives... it truly is amazing...

In answer to your question, I am very well thank you @eth - so happy to hear about better quality and quantity of sleep for you. So important... 🙂

Re: Night Shift

@eth, I decided to go out with my dad for a ride and I ended up doing bank stuff so that's a victory for me. I got my pizza now.. Just waiting for it to cool down.

I'm in better spirits.. Thank you guys so much for supporting me. 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Silenus @eth

My Dad tells a story about two truck drivers doing the run between Sydney and Perth, and back again. The older one is seasoned, the younger one a rookie.

They start out, the younger guy taking the first shift, the older one sleeping in the bunk.

The younger guy gets right into it, ploughing on through the night, all eyes and ears on the road, vigilant, focussed, working hard.

When his shift is over, he wakes the older guy to do his shift, and falls into the bunk bleary-eyed to take his turn sleeping.

At the end of the next shift, he is woken by the older guy, looking as fresh as a daisy ...

He gets back to his work, driving the rig while the older guy sleeps. By the time they get to Perth, the younger guy is confused ... he feels so worn out, but the older guy has a definite spring in his step.

So he asks the question - "Why am I so tired from doing thus work, and you're not ? What's the secret ?"

The older guy answered him, "It's the difference in our outlook. You get up there behind the wheel, and you go to work. I get up there behind the wheel and take a lovely drive through the countryside for four hours. I have been doing this a long time son. You have the choice which way you want to do it. I choose to love my job."

I think about this story when I don't feel like doing something I have to do, and try to work out how to make it "a drive in the countryside". Taking notes from you @Silenus ❣

Re: Night Shift

So glad to hear you're feeling better and got your banking done @Snuchu. Enjoy that pizza! Is your Dad able to be supportive about things like how you were feeling earlier? Just hoping you have some support.
