Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@Snuchu, sorry you are in a bad way and freaking out a bit. Do you ever try deep breathing exercises in a chair? Focussing on the breath and breathing in for 4, out for 5 or more counts. This can help slow down the mind and help with relaxation if you do it even just for about 5 minutes. If the mind wanders onto bad thoughts just gently try to refocus on your breathing again. Again, sorry if you already know this stuff or it doesn't work for you, just casting around for some ideas to help...

@eth, yeah I was a bit rattled when I woke up but have settled again now. 🙂 How has your sleep been tonight? You've come in later than usual so hoping it means you got a longer chunk.

Hi @Snuchu

Do you find that music helps you as a distraction ?

Got hungry and made some Nutella and banana sandwiches for D3 and me. Yum ✅

Re: Night Shift

@eth and @Mazarita, I went for some emergency green smoke, and it has calmed me some. But thanks for your concerns. The breathing helped. Thanks. 🙂

Sigh...

@Faith-and-Hope, I'm completely deaf and use ASL as a communication. But you're right, I have headphones that I can use for feeling vibrations. I'll do that.

Re: Night Shift

No longer chunk of sleep @Mazarita. 3 sleeps together adding up to just over 5 hours but that's not too bad for this time of morning. My gmail isn't working properly so I can't open my notifications since last night. Frustrating.

Re: Night Shift

@Snuchu, so glad the breathing helped. You can keep repeating that when you think of it. Breath is a magical healing thing when we focus on it. Helps get us grounded back into our bodies when mind is going too much in overdrive. Are you feeling safe enough to go out for a bit of a walk? That can be another good thing to get us grounded and a bit less caught up in bad headspaces.

@eth, bad ole rascally sleep demon. 5 hours is okay as an overall figure though I guess. Can feel myself getting a bit sleepier now too as dawn is arriving. Will be here for a bit longer and then it will overtake me again, which will be good. How annoying with the Gmail. I guess it means you have to keep refreshing the page here to see what's being posted. You seem to be keeping up well so far.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita, sometimes I'm too tired to focus on breathing. Too exhausted.
I'm not feeling good enough for a walk, even though it's sunny and all cheerful out there. I've made my apartment dark and it comforts me, less halluncations. I'm afraid that if I walk outside, I would start feeling risky.

Re: Night Shift

@Snuchu, seems like you know your limits pretty well and are good at keep yourself and others safe for the most part. The vibrations from the music could also be grounding too and help you out of the tricky headspace. More gentle hugs for what you're going through.
