Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, @eth, thanks for your kindness about the physical problems. I've read @Decadian say before that mental pain is often worse than physical pain and I second that. I think overall I've suffered much more from my mental illness than the myriad physical issues that have arisen over my time (some serious enough for major surgery). So all is okay and, yes, my GP is thorough and lovely and I feel well cared for by her. Doing a bit of uke practice in between posts. 🙂

hugs you you ladies, i am so lucky to have you as friends, to have support, thank you so much.

I have been trying to support a friend today, but things are not good, sorry @eth, but i only got a small break today, it is tough supporting someone with MI, especially when i am struggling myself.

hugs to all my forumite friends. you are all in my heart and in my thoughts.

Re: Night Shift

Hi All
I'm just back from work. It's been a looong day. On the drive home I was thinking about the changed attitude of a couple of people towards me over the last 6 months or so and was starting to feel resentful. I was thinking about how they should change their attitude.

I the had a light bulb moment.... I can't change other people but I can change me. So I started to consider what my role in this changed attitude might be.
This is still a work in progress but there obviously are ways that I can change that may promote a similar change in them and my relationship with them. It's a subtle turn around that could well make a big difference.

So I've dispensed with feeling upset and hurt and now I'm looking more carefully at me. As I said before, it's a work in progress but I'm starting to see small things that I can do differently that could well resolve the slight tension that currently exists. Maybe a major issue can be averted.

Sorry to hear that several of you are doing it tough. My thoughts are with you.
Hugzzz

Re: Night Shift

Hugs @Kurra I don't think u said anything wrong...
You're right we can only change ourselves and our own reactions/thoughts. I hope the issue can be solved.
I'm not coping very well and finding it hard to communicate very well sorry
Hugs

Re: Night Shift

I don't think so @Kurra. I thought the same thing about something I opted earlier today.
I think it's great that you can look outside yourself to realise what you can and can't change. I'm at the beginning of this and have a long way to go. 😊💜

Re: Night Shift

Thank @Former-Member and @Former-Member
I'm so s. I'm obviously a bit off balance tonight. Clearly I'm a bit more disturbed by today's events than I realised. I'm often quick to blame myself rather than others.
Nearly 39 years ago my husband attended AA meetings every day for several years. The AA meetings use a 'prayer ' at the beginning of each meeting :
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can
And the Wisdom to know the difference.
I have used this as a barometer in my life ever since. The hard part of course is having the wisdom to know the difference. You may find this helpful @Former-Member

I'm also well and truly on edge because tomorrow is my daughter's birthday. She's in a different country at the moment with her husband. I'm still not entirely sure what I did at her wedding that apparently ruined the wedding completely. Her brothers can't work it out either. Consequently she hasn't communicated with me since early January.
If course I will wish her happy birthday. I love her with all of my being but Ibam scared she will reject me yet again.
There's not much I can do but continue to love her unconditionally from a distance but it does hurt and that's understandable enough.

I will also find out if I'm moving to a different job for the next 3.75 months tomorrow. It's a much needed change because the position I'm in atm is incredibly boring with very little to do. If I do move I will start 6 Jun.
Lots of charge in a short period can be unsettling.

I need lots of courage and strong thoughts of encouragement to help me get through tomorrow. I'm a needy Kurra tonight.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Kurra,

I have heard the serenity prayer before. I just haven't been very good at using it. I'm starting to try and think about the things I can change, it's slow going and as you said often the wisdom is the hard part.

Perhaps it was good timing that you bought up the serenity prayer in that maybe you can't change your daughters thinking but I'm sure your unconditional love will win through. Thinking of you and hope that your courage gets you through the next few days. 😊💜
