Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo, what kind of music helps you sleep?

@eth, I realise I often wake to go to the loo and then I'm awake for quite a while. Feel less wired tonight than I do sometimes though, which is a nice change.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita, yeah... I've been not so good. And that's an understatement. I hope it'll be of some help - thanks.

@eth, hey. Didn't sleep much?

@Snuchu, I read some of what you've been going through when I was on earlier. Sending virtual hugs across the world for you. Hope it goes well with the nurse.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita, hugs to you too. 🙂 Thanks. I love e-hugs.

Re: Night Shift

@Snuchu @Mazarita I at least had my sleep in one 3 hour block which is better than average nights and also feel much more relaxed than often by this time of night.

@Snuchu I remember the last thing I said to you last night was about talking about Canada next time we spoke. I visited in and around Ottawa for a month in autumn 2012 and absolutely loved it. I stayed with my Dad's 2nd wife and she was a fabulous host.

Re: Night Shift

@Snuchu, e-hugs, like that word. 🙂 Yeah, I'm a huggy person in real life too. Read something a little while ago that 20 second hugs are the best. Apparently they change brain chemistry some way for the better. That's a bit over the top for most people including me, gets embarrassing especially with strangers, lol.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, good to hear you are feeling a bit more relaxed than usual too. Three hours is not a bad block if you can get something like it a few times a day. I really need at least 8 hours to feel okay over the course of a day. Otherwise I'm either wired in a bad way, or can't keep my eyes open, sometimes both at the same time. Would be better to be getting it all in one block I suppose but it is what it is for now.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita I started keeping a sleep diary again a week ago and the 3 hour block has only happened 3 times since then. Even to get 5 hours average total it's been taking 4-6 naps. No wonder I'm so flat during the day. The Dr just said the depression and insomnia are a chicken-and-egg thing.
