Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, yeah... I'm glad you have the energy to at least attempt to go out and attempt to recover. I appulad you on your determination. 🙂

Me on the other hand... I'm a wreck.

Goodnight @Mazarita

@Tufflife Sick and going down during the days then awake half the nights, but somehow managing not to fall apart too completely. What's going on for you @Tufflife?

@Snuchu do you see a counsellor or psychologist or someone for talk therapy of some sort? That might help a bit. It's no wonder you're still feeling pretty shattered after the night before last.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, I do... I have a nurse. I saw her two days ago and yesterday and now today we're talking with an interpreter for a hour or two session. (Yesterday and two days ago was just brief, for wellness checks and crisis counselling.)

If you're curious why I need an interpreter, I'm fully deaf and I use ASL.

Re: Night Shift

@Snuchu I hope you're able to be really open with her and tell her how you're feeling as that's the best way she'll be able to help you. I think you said at some stage you're in north USA somewhere and it sounds like you have a different system there to what we have here so I don't know what other supports might be available to you.

I did remember you saying you are deaf when you said about how you listen to music. I raised a child who is legally blind and I believe that having a disability mostly means you can do most things that you want to do but you need to find a different way of doing them. Do the interpreters do a good job?

Re: Night Shift

@eth i understand what your saying , I use to be the same I not as back now but still don't get to bed til late . You are a strong person and managing not to crumble but you need to take care of yourself and talk to someone before you do.

For me my depression is peeking its head out again and so is the anxiety. Finding it a little hard to control it . I feel alone .

Re: Night Shift

@eth, I live in Canada... Yeah, we have a different support system, I guess. I haven't seen the Aussie health system, so I'm not sure how different it is.
Although, I do have resources and supports, for example a crisis chat and texting..

I agree with you... Deaf people can do almost anything hearing people can do.
My interpreter is as best as they go for this area, but it's still causing a bit of confusion because she translates my sign sometimes wrong.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Tufflife my Dr knows what's going on and is helping me. Are you seeing anyone about what's going on for you? These forums hopefully help you feel less alone. They do for me.

I'm going to go to bed soon as I should try to sleep again. May be back later if it's the usual 3-4 hours sleep again.

Hope your session with the nurse goes really well for you @Snuchu

Re: Night Shift

Glad that they are helping you . These forums do help a lil . I haven't been back to my doctor in a few months so she has no idea how I am doing . All my psych sessions finished last year so I have been doing it all on my own since . It getting hard

Hope you get some sleep .

Re: Night Shift

@Snuchu I loved Canada when I visited. lets talk about that next time.

@Tufflife maybe it's worth seeing your doctor again if you are getting concerned.

Sorry folks but I'm so tired I can hardly type anymore so I'll have to say goodnight. I'll be back tonight or tomorrow for sure.
