Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

You are being brave and strong for them @Jacques but please remember to look after yourself too.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Jacques
I just wanted to let you know that my thoughts are with you. It's a tough gig but worth every second of effort.
I wanted to know how I could help people in this situation better and enrolled in an ASIST (Assisted Suicide Skills Intervention Training ) course. It can be very challenging for you personally particularly if you've been in that position yourself. Because I have always refused to be ashamed of actions I have taken when I've been extremely unwell and spoken openly about the pickles I've got myself in to I didn't find it so hard.
I've now attended many of these couses to provide back up sort if someone attending the course does become triggered by it. Often a walk and a chat has been enough to allow participants to complete the course.
Quite a few community groups provide these courses from time to time with subsidised cost.
It might be worth looking into a bit more closely.
Keep on being there for troubled and vulnerable acquaintances but first and foremost look after yourself. If you fall in a heap you will no longer be in a position to help them. A goid dose of selfishness can be a goid thing if it helps you to help them.
Hugs

Re: Night Shift

Hi All.
It's my bed time. Well I am in bed.

I finally made an appointment to see my psychiatrist. Hmm it's been about 16 months since I last saw him so I'm sure to get my fingers smacked.
The expense is a big problem as I have to travel to the big smoke. I hate going to the city. It's too big, too bust, too many people and too smelly. The travel plus the fee puts a massive hole in my budget. Nevertheless it is time.
I'm already trying to think of reasons why I can't go. None of which are very convincing. So Thursday of next week I'll be hitting the road. 7 hours of driving for maybe half to three quarters of an hour with the pdoc seems dumb but that's the way it is.
Maybe I will have a really bad headache that day.
@BlueBells was talking about procrastination. The only way I'll get there is by getting in the car and atart driving.
Argh! It's a real bummer though.
That's my whinge for the day.......

Re: Night Shift

Wow, I just take it so for granted living in the city. I hope you can take the plunge and see the dr. I know that I just couldn't cope without my psychiatrist. I wish that proper mental health practitioners were available in regional areas.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Jacques,

Just logged on and found all the messages to and from you. I've been thinking about you lately too. Adding my voice of support to all the friends you have here. You've already received the same advice a few different ways: you have to look after you to be able to look after your troubled friends. It might help to try to take less of a sense of responsibility for your friends' actions and intentions. We can only be fully responsible for ourselves when it comes down to it. Send gentle hugs.

Re: Night Shift

How well I understand that @plasmo
I just need to rely on you all here to keep on kicking me over the next week.
Cancel on me sounds good as long as they do it before I leave home.
Ho are you going fella?
