Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

@Mazarita

Staying away from the Paint app tonight.

D3 has straightened up a bit across the weekend, and sat the two tests at school she had skipped out on last week. Looks like she has saved her bacon again for the moment, thank God.

S2 - the opposite. He started sinking across the week last week, sleeping longer and longer through the day, and missing commitments, meals, not socialising with us. That got worse on the weekend. Two days of sleeping the whole day, and really hard to wake him up.

I told him he needed to talk to the doctor. D1 has hypothyroidism and she was sinking like this, not as badly as he is, when it came to light. He kept saying no, it's emotional for him, and he would pull himself together.

He said that last week, and obviously didn't. We set a new deadline for yesterday, and he slept right through the day again, despite trying to get him up for hours. My stomach is in knots.

I made a doctor's appointment for him and told him we're going. He's annoyed with me, but I can't just let him go.

He 's still up now. I'll go in and see him, and try to get him to go to sleep. I don't know how I am going to get him up and into the car in the morning yet.

Baby steps.

Made the appointment.

Better try to sleep again myself.

D3 has two more tests again tomorrow, and has to be at school on time.

@Faith-and-Hope, your days are a juggling act. It's good that you have acted quickly with S2. Great about D3 having got on top of things for now. RBreathe slowly into your belly while your stomach is in knots, if you can. Rest well and hope to see you tomorrow.

Re: Night Shift

I really need to get out tomorrow @Mazarita. Yesterday afternoon (Monday) was horrendous at my place with a massive fight happening between the couple in the flat next door. Lots of screaming and smashing things and him even screaming that she was trying to stab him, all with a 4 year old crying in the same flat. Called the police and told them everything and they didn't attend for 2 hours!!! By which time there was no-one home (or no-one answering the door) next door. All this gives me flashbacks to the DV I went through and makes me agitated, anxious and hypervigilant. Then later in the afternoon I just felt depressed. And tonight there's been cars coming and going from there all night (headlights in my bedroom window). So I gave up trying to sleep after 2 1/2 hours but may get some more in a while.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Mazarita @eth

Dont know what I would do without you guys right now. The comfort of waking up and finding someone else around, even if I don't sign in and chat, is really special.

Deep breathing ... had a bit of a melt-down with the school counsellor yesterday, even tho S2 is not a school student. This is new territory for me, and it's scary. Just trying to get us all thru safely, but you can only do what you can do.

I'm holding to faith that we are gonna be okay, and the landing will be as soft as it can be for my husband.

Thanks again. G'night

@Faith-and-Hope, glad we can be familiar faces for you here in the night (so to speak), even if you are not in the mood to chat. You are managing a lot of things going on around you so admirably. Breaking down with the school counsellor is not surprising. I hope they were helpful. You are right that you can only do what you can do. Sometimes life is chaotic and the best we can do is ride the waves. May landings be soft for every one of you. x

Re: Night Shift

@eth, awful about your neighbours domestic dispute. That would be hard enough for anyone to deal with, let alone when you have past trauma and hypervigilance. Hopeless of the police to take so long to get there. Not so surprising you might have then felt depressed after hearing all that. Really tough to live there sometimes, as you've said before. Sending comforting hugs your way. I'll probably be awake for a little while longer I think.

@Mazarita I was actually starting to think that the cptsd had pretty much resolved and then along comes another trigger and BAM I am right back there in it again. Very much looking forward to starting therapy again. There is only so much the GP can do in the time I have with her.
