Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Morning @Faith-and-Hope, think i better bail on this 'gender' issue & just listen as tend to put my foot in it, don't want to offend. I will say though that I've want to but choose not to act or dwell there. You have such a way with words.

Couldn't sleep most the night so got up & watched GREASE dvd, love the music & energy. An old favorate..

I really must work at putting hand to task today & clean up. Do you have any plans?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member

Absolutely no plans at this stage, which is a rare weekend.

Usually I would walk down to the river on a Saturday morning, but it's raining cats and dogs here at the moment. Also, although I don't feel too bad at the moment, it has been a stressful last few weeks, so sensibility tells me not to try to do anything of much this weekend.

I will see how the kids pull up this morning. If D1 is not in any hurry to head off, maybe she and Fiancé might stay for breakfast with the other kids. It would be nice. Nobody else is up and moving at the moment, so I'm still in bed, just chillin' 😊

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Faith-and-Hope I'm almost ok 🙂 The flu is still getting to me badly every time I lie down to try to sleep, have pillows piled up to elevate my chest but it doesn't make much difference. So I've had a few naps to try to get enough sleep and am feeling a little better on that score.

However I'm still pretty stirred up about parts of the responses to my sharing about my transgender adult child. And I can't really find the words or energy to explain what those feelings are about yet. I do appreciate you mentioning 'empathy' - it's one of my favourite words and human capacities.

You said : " Truth be told, they probably would have found a way to live with that identity in private anyway." >>>>> One of the big issues is that they shouldn't have to only live their identity in private. My adult child really needs recognition, especially from friends and family, for their mental health. They have spent the majority of their life feeling 'dysphoria' about the body they were born with and have found a way now that they can be comfortable in their own skin. And they are still evolving, with physical changes very likely in the future. This is very definitely NOT just a passing phase, it has been coming to light for years now for us.

So I'm not trying to make everyone here understand or accept, but it is something huge that I am dealing with on a daily basis and sometimes the learning curve is steep. If you want to ask me questions please do, and anyone else reading this. It would help me to be able to talk about it more.

Re: Night Shift

Only managed the dishes & felt like fainting so resting again (hate it when that happens). At least the sinks is clear & the bed is made.

I see WA has some nasty weather atm. Lock down the hatches over there, stay safe & warm. And Uluru had a 6.1 earthquake. SEQld is beautiful today accept a bit windy.

@eth, sorry, you sound unwell atm Things that helped me is Vicks VRub? Irish moss, high dose vitC, green tea, tumeric, honey, sunshine, water+++ & vegie soups. (you know more about herbs than me). Bricks under the bed head help elevate. Do rest up, be kind to yourself.

Thanks @Former-Member and @Shaz51. Definitely a rest day here too. Didn't know that about the Uluru earthquake. Will be on the news here tonight no doubt.
