Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@Tyler77, yeah, I do sometimes. But no naps yesterday, even though I was struggling for hours to keep my eyes open. I've had serious sleep disturbances like this for years now and been inclined to being a night owl since childhood, like my mum, who is still like this at age 80.

I got a change bucket. So when I come in, I toss whatever loss change or bills i got in the bucket. It's like a small metal pail that fits into my cubard. You might want to get one for yourself.

Hi @Mazarita 😏

and everyone else who is awake 😏

This part below might be as clear as mud, so don't bother reading all the detail if it's too much ...

_____________

I woke up a little while ago to Daughter 1 turning off my light and tucking me in ... I had fallen asleep. Checked my emails and found one from the school counsellor regarding Dtr 3. Now I'm fully awake again because we have a change of plan happening for tomorrow !

Dtr3 went to school yesterday, but hid out in the health centre all day and didn't sit for two critical tests that she was supposed to. She was stalling for more time because she didn't feel prepared, but also didn't communicate with the school counsellor, who is trying to support her, that she wasn't in class. That left the counsellor powerless to try to defer her tests for her, which is the required protocol. Grrrr !!

She found out in hindsight that if she does badly in the tests (there are more coming next week as well), the school can work with that, but they can't work with "no-shows". In consultation with the head of her year, I was told she had been given today to do the two tests she missed, and they can't be "no-show" again.

Dtr3 was due to attend TAFE today. So ... organised with the sch. couns. That she come to school for a half day to sit the tests, then go a half day to TAFE.

Now the sch. couns. email says that TAFE requirements are inflexible, and her TAFE certificate is now the priority, deferring all her school tests to next week. Great, only she has a portfolio due for TAFE that is not complete !

Dtr3 is now up part-completing said portfolio with Son2 helping with scanning, printing, etc, and will ask for a deferment till Monday on the photos she needs to produce across the weekend with Dtr1 helping her with that. If she can show that everything is done except the photos, and the school can send copies of the doctor's certificates, we are still in this race ....

If Dtr3 didn't want to try to achieve this, and wasn't able to, she wouldn't be up and working on it now.

At least that much is clear. She wants this, and is trying to repair the damage she has done. No sign at the moment of any psychosomatic pain, so maybe this has shocked her out of it for the moment.

Hi @plasmo did you find that change you were looking for?

Re: Night Shift

@Faith-and-Hope, post was clear enough to get what's going on. Seems like a great thing that the school counsellor is on board with helping D3 get through even when she is falling at times, like hiding out in the health centre for a day. She is really going through it (as are you, of course!), for her to be hiding out one day and up all night the next trying to get missed work done. Hugs for you both.

@eth, how's the sleep been tonight? How is the chest infection feeling at the moment?
