Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

I'm the same, @eth, but trying to stay awake for a bit longer still. Rest well and hopefully long.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, you're amazing helping your neighbour out today. Look after yourself too.

I enjoyed the Thursday Discussion tonight on 'hearing voices' different coping strategies & how to talk to someone in psychosis.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member. Agreed that @eth is great to support her friend by driving all that way.

Sorry I didn't respond to that post earlier, @eth, was struggling to keep my eyes open. Got a burst of energy by reading through the posts on the 'Hearing Voices' special event. I'm still really sleepy after all the walking today (a lot for me), but don't want to go to bed yet because I think I'll wake again too soon in the night if I do that.

@Former-Member, I really felt for you when you were describing in the 'Hearing Voices' thread about all the people around you experiencing that kind of thing in various ways. Glad you found some peace of mind about your own 'inner voice' being something pretty much all of us experience and not necessarily an indicator of psychosis. I too get that really damning inner voice at times, which seems to go hand in hand with depression and anxiety. So glad you had a beautiful start to your day this morning.

Thanks Mazarita, seems to me like Mental Illness is like faces - everyone's different! It has been hard in a family in denial about their crippling MH issues, me included, i feel alone but think they all do too. My son is almost the age i was when i had my 1st breakdown, and he's still in that vulnerable age group for psychotic break, so i give him lots of space (don't want my problems on him no matter how lonely i am) and occasional ph calls. Things have come good for him this year - taken a while since his sister died & i lost the plot. Think he's had it better than my early years thank God. And he's so smart.

I'm 'agnostic' about any God that might be out there but I respect the way that faith and belief can be such solace to you and others, @Former-Member. You have gone through so much in your life. It must have been so confusing early on with the kinds of things your mother said about aliens. Great to hear that things have got better for your son this year and that he has intelligence to help him through the hard times too.

Re: Night Shift

Hearing voices event... I missed it I was definitely hearing some nasty ones. But then I also get delusions that I never share with anyone except my psychiatrist and I still only say a fraction of the whole story. When my son goes to bed I'll text lifeline and talk about today.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Angels333, I read through some of your earlier crisis posts here after I got home from being out. Sorry you have had such a hard day. Sounds like a great plan to get onto Lifeline chat as they are better trained to deal with crises than we are here. Always welcome to discuss things with us here too though. There are things I don't describe on this forum, or with anyone. But overall I have found it a relief to be as open about things as possible here. It's often surprising how much support can be available even when we are ashamed or embarrassed to describe certain things. But it's always up to you.

Re: Night Shift

All that driving, and a chest infection @eth. No wonder you're tired.

Sleep well.
