Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi guys,
Ventured off to couple of socials this weekend. Kinda good 'till back home alone. Always overthink interactions, especially the silent moments, "how did i come across there?" 'do they think i'm a cretin?" Are my perceptions off, I'm trying to mix more, re lonely, but unsettle me especially feeling left out or invisible. Its probably all in my head, difficult to switch off the internal chatter.

Can't be on for long tonight.

Doc wants me to have biopsy ynder GA for an enlarged womb. But wondering if to just let nature take me. Medical procedures can be so invasive. Any advise?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member,

I so much know what you mean about the times after social interractions. I have tortured myself many, many times with the sorts of thought streams you describe. A few things come to mind:

 • sometimes helps me to remember that most people don't think about us to the same degree we analyse ourselves as they are too busy thinking about their own lives;
 • sometimes helps me to think of these thought streams as 'just thoughts' or to imagine them as clouds passing by in the sky rather than things that have to be grasped onto and run with;
 • sometimes helps me to simply distract myself when in those states with activities of some kind (being here on the forum and chatting with others, for example).

Regarding the proposed medical procedure, I would say proceed with it. From what you are saying about 'letting nature take its course with you', there's also the possibility that you could use someone to talk to in person about that. Do you ever ring Lifeline? I haven't used it myself but, from what I've read here on the forum, it can be for more than just extreme crises. Some people here ring fairly often to help them get through difficult emotions and thoughts. Number is 13 11 14. Aside from that, I am here tonight if you'd like to talk more about what you are going through.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Mazarita

The soup is really great - it should be even better tonight

I have chronic pain in my spine - I have for a long time - it's one reason I joined this wesbite - while it's not the usual complaint and my medication is quite different it does get me down at times. Today was one of those days - I could not seem to get past myself

A nice hot bath would help yes. I started to run the bath and the cold tap came apart and luckily I was able to stop the water by getting the tap partly back together - but the whole experience was less than satisfactory - I decided there was enough water, there wasn't and that it was hot enough, it wasn't - but getting colder all the time I was fiddling around

But it was enough to ease my back

However - I was not planning it but first thing tomorrow I have to organise a plumber - yeeaahhh

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Mazarita,
Guess its a case of being aware, seeing it, thoughts, as unhelpful while they're happening, snip it in the bud. Sounds like you do understand which is a comfort.
As for lifeline, well, in my experience, they are very good at referring people on. My issues seem too complicated for them but i have landed the odd good listener &; they saved my life once by calling an ambulance after an OD (moved on from that place now).
Letting nature take its course probably boils down to quality of life, the will to live & if you have people around who care for you.For 3yrs i fought suicidal ideology; daily struggled with the reasons for & against. Made it my primary goal not to leave this world with 'suicide' on my death certificate as a legacy for my son to carry. But 'cancer' - that would be acceptable.
As a survivor of parasuicide, the hardest thing in trying to move past it was the social fallout & how you no longer matter so much to others anymore (in my circle), they drop away, sometimes just emotionally, where you have become less. Protecting themselves I guess., What I mean is, i don't matter to anyone on a deeper, 'real' level anyway, going through treatment alone, gosh, how? But i guess going through with the biopsy to see what i'm up against (or not) is prudent.

thanks again.

Hiya. Woken by my daughter again. She has stomach pains. I don't know whether it's anxiety because she has school tomorrow and is faced with catch-up work and out-of-patience-teachers from recent absences ... will check on her again in a minute.

@Former-Member

Getting the biopsy done is the first step. How about breaking this down into a step by step thing, and just taking it one day at a time ? I know there has been a lot of that in your life, but please just keep on at it. You have touched my life already, and maybe all the little touches on so many other people's lives add up to a huge overall touch. At least that's how I feel. Please just keep coming along. You are here for a reason, whether it feels like it or not ❤️

@Decadian

I am so sorry for the pain you have suffered. I wish I could make it better for you. You may not see it in yourselves, but those who have suffered like you have, then go on to express empathy and understanding towards others, sharing positivity where you can, are giants on the landscape. You have the ability to stride over many things that others of us are blind to, and reach out in a powerful way to other sufferers because you have been there. It was a terrible price to pay, but you are worth more than you know ❤️

And together you all become a team, as you have found each other on this forum. Each team member adds strength to the others, and you are all pulling in the same direction, creating a current moving forward. Everybody counts. The current is weaker without you, and it needs to stay strong. It's a healing current.

💌 ... ❤️❤️❤️

Did you get the Frogmouth Owl babies image I posted for you the other night ? I went looking for images, and they are such ridiculously cute things !!! So full of character. Some are balls of white fluff with a beak and "angry eyebrows" with feet. They had me in stitches !!! And I wouldn't have know that, or had such a belly-laugh with looking them up for you ☺️
