Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Shaz51, @Faith-and-Hope, @Decadian, @eth, @Silenus, everyone,

Sending hugs and good vibes to all who need them today, and to those who are travelling pretty well too.

Just had a slow and not so jaunty walk on the beach (stiff feet, calves, lower back this day). Glorious out there, blue blue sky with just a random few dots and streaks of clouds. Watching dogs and people abandon themselves to play in the surf, heart warming sights. Sweetly awkward smile with a stranger (that thing when they smile at you but you've just missed it and then you smile back but they've just missed yours, lol). Working myself up to overcome nerves for an unusual social get together this evening. Gotta get in the shower before then but don't feel like it, doh. I've got a sore throat and having occasional coughing fits but, all in all, there's not much to complain about in my day really, mainly just wanted to say hi to everyone here.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita Your time at the beach sounds great. Beaches up here are all at least a 1/2 hour drive away and have crocs and often loose dogs as well so I don't get to them very often. What a mystery tonight sounds like!

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita

That sounds like a pretty cool way to spend a Sunday afternoon - walking along a surf beach is something I hope to do again some day

I hope that sore throat recovers naturally - that's life - we like to know the whole story here -

I have just made bacon and vegetable soup - gee it smells great - I hope I am good and hungry by the time the bell goes off

And just go keep the scales balanced - my back is aching

Re: Night Shift

@eth, scary beach scenes you paint. Do you have other places you like to go walking?

@Decadian, sympathies for your sore back. Your soup sounds delish!

No real mystery with the meetup tonight, just didn't want to double up on telling it in the middle of last night. I'm meeting up with a one-time creative collaborator I've only met over the net. He wrote a couple of pieces I turned into lyrics for a couple of electronic music tracks made some years ago (all through net collaboration). Haven't had much contact with him since and honestly feel a bit reluctant and not that well to go. But I think he'll be disappointed and I am trying to challenge myself socially so I'll probably make it.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita yes you did mention that meeting. Didn't realise it's tonight. I'm sure you'll be glad you've done it afterwards.

re: the walking - I have something called a neuroma in my right foot that makes much walking painful. I know I should exercise more though and swimming is a good option. I'm going to make more of an effort to get out and do it. You inspire me with your efforts.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita 🙂

Loved your description of the sweetly awkward smile. Hahaha...

Good luck with the social thing. I know the feeling... there's a bucks thing next weekend, and I'm just not into socialising either... I'm happy just quietly being me... tending the garden, getting a bit of dirt under the fingernails, doing the dishes (clean hands first), writing my things...

Oooh... going for a bike ride... gotta go. My lovely partner's sister's husband and I are gonna attack some hills...

Real life stuff... woohooo....

Re: Night Shift

@eth, ouch, just looked up neuroma. Swimming does sound like a better option (just not at the beach, hehe). Are there maybe any hydrotherapy programs up there? I've been thinking of adding something like that (just haven't got around to it yet).

@Silenus, excited for you getting active in the really real, climbing hills on bikes, no less. Enjoy!

Showered now so one step closer to my reluctant appointment...

Re: Night Shift

Planning to ask the Dr about it tomorrow @Mazarita. For tonight - just remember to use that slow, deep breathing and maybe have a plan for your partner to ring you while you're there so you can have an excuse to leave if you want to. Sometimes just having a plan means we don't need to use it.
