Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @plasmo. What's keeping you up tonight?

@eth, sounds like you could be a bit feverish. Hope the dreams were okay. Here listening if you want to talk about them.

I've had about 3 hours sleep too. Drinking hot lemon and honey for sore throat.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita I've just finished a hot lemon, honey and ginger and now sucking a strepsil. The main dream was I moved into a huge and lovely flat then discovered half the rooms in it were full of the posessions of someone who died there. Mum was helping me clear them out. Found a window open and saw that a heron and her chicks were living inside. Like I said, crazy!

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo, what's on the radio?

@eth, wow, do you interpret the dream in any way?

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita Don't really have any interpretation in mind yet but wondering about the heron - such a specific bird. The flat was overlooking a river and when the tide came up there was about a foot of water in the back yard. Mum was dancing me through the water. And in the flat was a 2nd kitchen with all sorts of chaos left behind, mostly rubbish but lots of beer (I hate the stuff in real life) that we drank as we sorted everything out. So many details I'm still processing it all.

Would love any ideas you or @plasmo have about it.

Re: Night Shift

the thing that came to mind was clearing things out, getting rid of old baggage. the birds are unusual and some kind of new beginning maybe

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo, is it music or talk or both? What's the content?

@eth, for what it is worth, here is an interpretation of heron in dreaming from the net:

...a heron can convey the idea of being partially - but not fully - into an issue, dynamic, or situation, or trying something out, or doing something without full commitment or personal involvement.

Off the top of my head, maybe there's something significant about your mother's involvement in the dream and the way she is helping you, through clearing away detritus, and dancing you through water (I think traditionally associated with emotion). This is just a kind of speculative fiction though, from my middle of the night mind.
