Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

This will really test my computer skills! I'm always ready to learn but I usually manage to do most things the long way round. You'll notice if I succeed. 😄

Morning @plasmo

A fair few hours have passed since your post about being frustrated. I hope the guy you're referring to wasn't on this forum!

Please feel free to email us on team@saneforums.org if someone here is troubling you. We don't want anyone to make anyone else uncomfortable 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth
I do need to choose what type of car I drive very carefully. The newer designs limit my visibility so much that I can't drive them. The older cars with much larger windows are what I drive. I've got a 2002 Subaru Forester which is really fabulous. It means I can turn my head and get maximum sight of what is beside me and behind me by using mostly central vision and the very small amount of peripheral vision that I still have.
I have certainly been blessed.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks so much @Former-Member

Normally by this time I am a wreck about the anniversary - or maybe it was all the trips I kept making to the Juvenile Detention Centre - it was a time of terrible stress and I knew he was suicidal and could not help

I hope you can get an apppointment with your dentist on Monday - and it's not good you can't take the strong pain killers - there are times when they are necessary - and dental pain can be agony - as you know

btw - are you taking any antibiotics - it sounds as if you do - maybe you could see your doctor and find help there -

Decadian

You need relief soon - I just hope you get it

Re: Night Shift

@NikNik hi, it was somewhere else fortunately. its good to be on a site where people are nice to each other. the post was about a guy he thought should be expelled from school and he said he'd end up working in construction or some other jobs. It irked me, my goal is to get into 'unskilled work', I'm so over this 'you gotta go to college y'all stuff' it's just not for everyone. researching what i was going to do i found an ex-bank manager and other people with 'good' jobs who quit to do it and enjoy it.

@Kurra i didn't realise your avatar was a flute, I thought it was a lizard

Re: Night Shift

Hi @plasmo

I know of people with uni degrees who have changed their line of work completely to go into "unskilled" jobs, for a variety of reasons.

Sometimes it has meant they make a lot more money with a lot less responsibility and stress - they worked that out after going through all the Uni studies and suffering stress in the career they thought they wanted.

Sometimes it's because they realised they wanted to work with people in their new job setting, and their other qualifications left them sitting in an office with a computer all day, or working with numbers and papers, whereas the "unskilled" work gave them the opposite. Or visa versa.

I have one child left in high school, and the education landscape has completely changed now. There are certificates for a whole range of things, and different pathways that are considered alternatives to formal studies and degrees, but still land you nicely in the areas of your choice. I think what you are talking about is actually catching on. It's "different strokes for different folks" and you should pursue whatever you want to do because it suits you for who you are and what it offers you, or what you can contribute, or both. No need for any judgements.

I hope you get in to what you want to do, and love being there.
