Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Just came through on my end too, @Faith-and-Hope, lovely. 🙂

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita Talking about the 'big stuff' is often painful but I think it helps us work through it faster than we would on our own. The dreaming is not pleasant, I get that, but probably your subconscious's way of processing more than you do when awake.

In my case I'd rather be having the dreams than still be a chronic green user who almost never dreamed.

Re: Night Shift

You are right, @eth. Still feeling great about being green free here too.

@Faith-and-Hope It really is amazing what images one can find on the net isn't it. And cudos to you for being so tech savvy with manipulating them. I don't have those skills.

Re: Night Shift

I don't know if it is of any value to you @Mazarita , but this is a solution I offered up to my kids in response to bad dreams, and I have used it myself also -

I simply revisit the general idea of the dream, fully awake, and rescript it. I over-write it with something much more pleasant, a bit like a daydream, then consider it edited. It worked with the kids. The bad dreams never seemed to return, and I found the same with myself. It's just another way of "turning lemons into lemonade".

I hope it is helpful to you. You might find a way to tweak it your own way with other things too - rescript ini them to sit more comfortably. You can probably rescript habits that way too as a way of changing them by degrees. Probably takes a bit of playing around with the concept.

Re: Night Shift

I'm proud of you @Mazarita. How do you go when others do it around you? I found that very difficult for quite a long time but am ok with it now, feel no temptation at all.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Faith-and-Hope. I'll give that some thought.

Thanks @eth, that means a lot. I'm having no trouble when my close friend is smoking around me, though she's cut back in my presence anyway (I'm inadvertently being a good influence I think). Partner is along for the ride so there's none in the flat anymore. We agree that our lives just feel so much better without it.

Re: Night Shift

That's great news @Mazarita.

I'm going to lie down and try to sleep some more now. Talk again soon. Nite nite to both of you 🙂
