Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Love the image @Faith-and-Hope, came through much faster than usual. 🙂 How wonderful it sound, your embroidery of your artwork. I too am a bohemian at heart too and a natural born artist, but in video and music. I can't draw to save myself so admire it greatly in those who can.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member The type of herbs I sold are known as ethnobotanicals. I can't recommend specific herbs to anyone on these forums as I believe it's against the rules and also I wouldn't want to risk interactions with prescribed medications. I would suggest you see a qualified herbalist if you want more info and a recommendation, then check with your doctors before you take anything. DO NOT order online (in my opinion) as there are a lot of risks involved. Certain companies selling online (I'm not able to name them here either for legal reasons) have a really bad reputation now for bad labelling and irresponsible, unqualified sales people. If you look up herbalists in the yellow pages you should be able to find one that is good and registered with the National Herbalists Association of Australia (N.B.)

Re: Night Shift

I'm fading now but I have to be up in less than an hour to go to ukelele class. What to do... hmmm.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita I suggest setting an alarm and lying down maybe with your feet up and doing some deep breathing. Even if you don't snooze it will be refreshing. I believe in power naps! It's either that or hit the caffeine!!! I've just made a brew here 🙂

Re: Night Shift

@eth, both good suggestions. But, since I had such a bad headache yesterday and can still feel it lingering, I think I will cancel ukelele for today and go back to bed soon for another chunk of proper sleep. I've been practicing ukelele a lot in my absence from classes anyway. Truth is, I could continue to teach myself to play ukelele on my own as I already play guitar. The class is more for social contact than anything else. There's always next week for that... How are you feeling now?

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita Yep that's another option and probably what I would have done to be honest. I'm feeling quite good as one of my sleeps last night was over 3 hours in one block. Even that always makes a big difference to how refreshed I feel.

Are you still there @Former-Member

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita Often I'm a bright spark around dawn as it's my favourite time of day and then will relax into a doze a bit later. Love the clear cool air and watching the light change and hearing the birds starting up.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, dawn is a beautiful time. Just went outside for a bit to get some of the clear fresh air before the day warms up. So glad you have got a better sleep block overnight.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita A few years ago I went to a women's bush medicine camp over in east Arnhem Land and while I was there they gave me the name Warrarra which means twilight. In Yolngu way twilight is dawn and dusk so I get in touch with their special energy and lessons at those times. I think dawn is especially beautiful as so many people are still resting or being quiet, there's little 'interference in the ether' so to speak. That's when I commune with nature the best.

Re: Night Shift

Sounds like a wonderful experience there, @eth, and a special honor to be named by the Yolngu people. Again I relate to your special affinity with twilight. When I'm physically sick, dusk and dawn are usually times my condition changes, sometimes bringing healing relief. And one of the things I so love about the overnight hours is what you say about the quiet in the 'ethers' of the outside world. I feel much more comfortable in the night than the day, possible more comfortable with other people's minds in dream states. I associate your forum name with that sense of the word ether too, as in sensitive to the ethereal energies.
