Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Wow, I didn't know, but that makes the link so much more special ! Thank you ❤️

I have a new link - purple butterflies and you ! I am an artist and highly visual. Colours are a real touch-stone for me and a fountain of creativity.

"Tawney" makes me think of the big cats - tigers, leopards ... I love tiger-stripe and leopard-spot patterns, on anything. It's also the colour of eagles. All very powerful images.

Re: Night Shift

Well hello!! I got only another hour and feel that might be it for me tonight. Was reading your post about the sunflowers @Faith-and-Hope. I have a similar thing about daffodils and my grandfather's passing when I was younger. To this day I think of him whenever I see them.

Re: Night Shift

@Faith-and-Hope, lovely to know you are an artist. Is that one of your own images on your avatar?

By the way, @Former-Member, @Faith-and-Hope, I too feel my father around and in easy 'contact' still 13 years after his passing. I've never really felt he was gone in a way. He suffered I believe from undiagnosed mental illness, possibly bipolar like me, certainly with psychotic symptoms at times. It was a very troubled early life we had with him, coming and going due to breakdowns between he and my mother. He did terrible things to us at times but I have always loved him and I knew that he loved me too, despite it all...

Re: Night Shift

Missed your post while I was posting, @eth. Seems we all have these links to our departed loved ones. How comforting that is...

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth

If anyone is looking for a distraction -

I can't see myself ever getting a tattoo, but at the moment I am enchanted with what are called "water-colour tattoos". If you type "watercolour tattoos" then something like "daffodils" ( @eth ) and "images", it will come up with a whole range of beautiful images.

Re: Night Shift

My childhood was pretty full-on in a similar way @Mazarita except it was Mum who had all the wild swings and acted out on us kids most frequently. And then every few years Dad would lash out in one of their rows and hit her. He even knocked me to the floor once when I was expecting my child at age 25 and back at home for respite from my failing relationship.

I've been having so many memories of hard times the last couple of days. Not reliving them in a PTSD way thank goodness, but I guess I'm starting to see my mind is speeding up a bit with all this broken sleep. It's a known trigger for me. Looking forward to seeing my Dr next monday and doing a new Mental Health Care Plan.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita

My avatar came from a watercolour tattoo of roses. I cropped it and put it into a paint ap and played with it a bit, so as to not offend anyone with copyright issues. I could have painted it tho. It was just easier to pick it up from the AP and drop it into the avatar box than painting one first 😏
