Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

I'm here too now @Faith-and-Hope, @Former-Member. Had about 4 hours sleep so far. Not up to much in the way of long replies at the moment but I'm reading and listening to your stories...

Re: Night Shift

Hi Tawney. Pleased to meet you ! No, you didn't put me to sleep.

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. I can't imagine how hard that must be, and you are coping so well. Yes, I imagine you would be happy to have the problem of her waking you up thru the night, so gladly. I am grateful that the issue I have is so small in comparison.

Having lost my mum, I hear you about the comfort of feeling that they are around you. I have a particular connection with sunflowers. When my mum was sick in hospital, we had her outside on a day bed one day. The empty block behind the hospital was full of sunflowers. The kids were still small. She asked them to go and pick some of the sunflowers for her. When they brought them back, we made giant daisy chains with them, which is something she had taught me to do as a child.

In the weeks after she passed, I kept coming across sunflowers unexpectedly, for weeks. There was a single one growing opposite the funeral home. Then I found a tiny vase of ornamental sunflowers in a gift shop right next to the cash register when I went to pay for something. I bought hem and they sit in my kitchen. Then the next week my MIL bought me a big bunch of sunflowers - not something she would choose ordinarily, and she had no idea of the connection ! It was my mum's birthday on the weekend. I walked into a friend's house for the first time yesterday, and she had a sunflower clock on the wall. It keeps happening.

I'm glad you found so much info to put your mind at ease re selling the house. It is a big job, but you will get thru it step by step. My husband was a workaholic, and I had a houseful of young kids - 5 under 10 years. I got really good at breaking things down into the tiniest pieces, if that's all I could muster the energy for. My. Mum used to tell me that if you can wash the dishes and make the beds every day, at least the house will feel and look presentable, even if there were kids toys and washing everywhere. A few touches of housekeeping shows as effort enough, and it's as much for you as anyone else.

One step at a time is a favourite mantra for me. I helps to keep focussed on living in the moment too 🌺

Hugs @Former-Member, it's probably talking about your daughter that has you emotional at the moment. Sometimes the middle of the night we have less of our defences up I think... Will be here for a little while if you want to talk more.

Re: Night Shift

No @Faith-and-Hope,, good grief, i'm ok, well, little things set me off but there's no blame as life really does go on for everyone else. Just be yourself. I'll let you know.
I do have an adult son living in the big smoke, proud of him as he graduates uni degree July.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Former-Member

Major achievement there ! Not everyone stays steady thru to graduation. I didn't, and youngest son is struggling with it. Good to hear the success stories.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita, thanks for "hugs" nice ro know someone's listening out there.

@Faith-and-Hope, butterflies & the colour purple draw me since my girl died. I love sunflowers foe her headstone, dis you know sunflowers symbolise eternity? You're so lucky to have such linking aids.
