Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Yep, same issue, @Shaz51. @NikNik, I have checked my subscription settings and even on threads I am subscribed to, I only receive notifications if somone tags me. Other new posts don't show up in email notifications. I have to say that in some ways I find this a better system as it stops us from being inundated with SANE notifications all the time. But just wanted to check that this was an intentional change in the way the forum operates rather than a glitch in the system.

Re: Night Shift

Well my week with my family here went really well. I absolutely loved all the play time with my grand daughter and the late night deep and meaningful raves with my adult child (formerly daughter). As some of you know that aspect in itself raised some challenges for me but overall I coped with them. They left this afternoon and since I came from the airport I'm just feeling so flat. My home seems so empty with just me in it. I'm not even going to try and clean or restore things to the way I have them when there's no toddler here yet. Came home and fell into bed and zonked out for a while but not long enough. Have had only 4 or so hours sleep the last 3 nights so I'm exhausted from that too. Looking forward to catching up with you all more now that I have time to myself again.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth, so good to read you again. And again it seems we have been going through some similar things lately - the challenges and rewards of spending time with family. Hope you get a solid sleep soon. I'm in a similar space at the moment with interrupted sleep even though I'm mostly going to bed before midnight these days. But at least I'm usually getting three hours at a time before waking and spending some time in that state before going back to sleep land. So glad to hear you had a wonderful time with your family and that you coped with the challenges. I'm hoping to catch up with you more now that I'm back from the family trip. I missed you in your absence.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita so exhausted since the family left! But still only been able to have short naps - 2 already tonight and 1 in the afternoon. How are you going other than the sleep factor?

Re: Night Shift

Hey again @eth:

That sounds pretty much how your sleeping was ages ago when we were first having our wonderful late night chats. I really wish that could improve for you. What does your psychiatrist say about it? I wonder if there's some help you can get elsewhere with it, if not from him. Maybe breath focussed meditation? I'm guessing you have probably tried that, but it would be great if there was something to help more with the sleep aspect of your life.

I'm going pretty well just now aside from the usual struggle with social anxiety (and anxiety about lots of other things), and the usual tendency to be too housebound. Working on these things with psychologist and support worker. Depression has subsided a bit for now. I feel much brighter from the trip.

I know I said I was usually getting to bed before midnight but I've been up tonight troubleshooting sound issues with my new computer. This if for a new creative project I will be starting, perhaps tomorrow. After working on that most of the day and night to get the tech working, I've finally got it sorted. Patience pays off with computers.

Have you been up to much aside from family? Seems like there's a lot of time in between our last exchanges. Interested to hear anything that's been happening for you.

Hi @Mazarita & @eth

I'm just signing off the computer; like @Shaz51 my sane forum messages havent been showing up....

I must comment to you @Mazarita, it is lovely to read your messages again....

You are so thorough and thoughtful in your messages.

@eth I love reading your grown up messages about your family.....Mazrita, Are you glad to be home? I really dislike travelling. I love my home and sitting down....I get weary easily......

Re: Night Shift

Hey @PeppiPatty, glad I've caught you too, just before I'm about to take myself to bed. 2am is my absolute cut off time (that's earlier for you by a few hours I think). Thanks for your lovely welcome back. I love the photo of the guy on the chairs. I wonder who that is. Reminds me of how precarious some of us feel (even sitting down) and the balancing act it requires to get through our lives sometimes. Yet somehow we manage to hang in there. Yum to your strawberry men too.
