Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Hi @Shaz51

I enjoy Historical Fiction too - one of the best books I read was Penmaric I enjoyed that book so much it feel apart

Historical Fact is good too - I have been enjoying reading about Queen Victoria - she was a domestic tryrant - how wow - she really gave her family a hard time

I have written some short stories too - it's a good hobby

Possibly this site has a place where we can write our original short stories and poetry

Re: Night Shift

Hi @PeppiPatty

Are you talking about Penmaric? I read that book for the first time when we were on holidays when our kids were young - like maybe 1974

The author was Susan Howatch - and that is a huge book covering a huge scope and several generations of the same family and it is based on actual events of actual Royal families

But I didn't know until I looked it up that there was a TV Series - wow - I wish I had seen that - because that was one creative and brilliant book

Home and Away - there is no need to be feeling any kind of feeling that watching a soapie is not a good use of your time - I stopped watching it years ago when the nature of the stories changed and somehow I was no longer interested - but - butbutbut - I watched it for years - and in the summer there were those nights when the tennis went on and on and I would wait for Home and Away to start - and weep sometimes because if an episode was missed I never saw it again.

But I watched it for years -

But back to Penmaric - it's available through Amazon - I am going to have to get myself another copy - it might take me most of the winter to read it - twice

Hi @Decadian

How are you?

II've just looked it up in Amazon and ordering it in July...Ive gotta look up that book that @Appleblossom was saying about too.

Is it similar to Ken Follett, those 2 fantastic novels about the cathedral called 'World Without End?

I cannot wait to have a look at it. I might even pay my fine at the libary and see if they have got it..........

My son and I are beginning to have one on one conversations about his past. Very interesting, Ille let you all know when I've got more info from him. I've asked if I can meet up with his councellor and him when he is ready.......
