Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Jacques I hope you are feeling a little less lonely. Your honesty is great though and it's great insight into your situation to see loneliness and to reach out.

Also guys, I am home from hospital now and I am feeling so much better, the pain has gone.

And I would often be rattled after something like an er visit so I am glad I am still having success against the SH.

For everyone who is still battling, I had around 365 days of continual SH and even 3 weeks ago there wasn't much hope that I could see.

Hi @Angels333,

Yes i feel less lonely when i am here with friends 🙂 i try to be as honest as possible to everyone, it helps save any mis communication and confusion.

I am so glad you are out of hospital and feeling better, i hope your health continues to improve.

I am so glad you have stopped SH, i struggle with it every day, it is not good for anyone to be harming themselves, i am so glad you have found a way to stop.

take care

Jacques

Re: Night Shift

Well it's 2.30am and everyone here is having a lousy night. My visitors are used to Canberra temperatures and Darwin has turned the heat up. I don't use air con here as I can't afford it. It's probably 28deg or so in the bedrooms. They are no longer used to sleeping with ceiling fans on and bub has fussed a lot and fallen out of bed twice. Oh dear. And I'm not used to so much activity here at night so have only managed 2 short naps myself. Anybody out there?

Re: Night Shift

Oh darn @eth Toddlers can be hard enough to settle.

I am hard to settle too. Not sure if I have missed you. I have a house guest too, I felt maternal about her 2 years ago, but now I feel distinctly uncomfortable when she visits. Thems the breaks I guess.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth

It sounds as if you and everyone else had a horrible night -

I know A/C costs a bundle - but it seems everyone around here has it - I do - Melbourne can have very hot weather and nights k=like the one you just had

But there's the thing - even with the A/C on hot nights when the termperature is the same outside as it is inside - the the A/C unit seems to make the air worse

Back you you and your house-full - I guess Canberra as a different climate besides Darwin - and these opressive nights might continue - how long are your guests staying -

Let's hope tonight is easier

@eth and @Appleblossom

I have lived alone since 1989 - I am set in my ways

There's an upside and a downside to having house guests - esp with a toddler in the mix

And then bad weather - whatever the weather was -hot and humid I guess - oh dear

We don't have to like it - we don't have to feel guilty about not liking it - we just put on a happy face I reckon and vent to our mates in a safe place - like here - where people understand how we feel

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth

II've never been to Darwin, but I hear you about the heat.

I have metabolic syndrome from meds and weight gain complications.

I sweat in 24 degrees. 28 would take the wind from my sails.

Hi @Angels333

Ive been asking about you, it's good to see you.......

@eth.......is there any time for you to spend by yourself? Can you go to the libary or anywhere for a cuppa tea? This is a huge issue for me as well.

@Decadian
