Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

That is terrible @Decadian, I know how you feel, I am so sensitive to noise, I have to wear ear plugs most of the day to stop me jumping at every noise. I get tension headaches and you are right you notice noises more when you are sore in the head.

I feel I need to give back @Decadian, I have received so much from this forum, it is nice to give back and help others.

I hope the party finishes soon, they really should not go past midnight.

I am here if you want to chat, this is my panic attack time, from now till 1 or 2 am

Re: Night Shift

I guess I must be feeling at home, if I am dropping all my punctuation marks. lol

Hi @Decadian Do you live in an apartment?

I have a headache too, it is chronic, and i darent take medication for it as that would be the end of me. So I punish the world with making sounds of all kinds ... hopefully it is music ... lol

@Jacques Is great isnt he.

I had a feeling when he posted these amazing model ships that he builds. Such careful attention to detail.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Appleblossom,

How are you my friend? You should be in the land of nod by now 🙂

Yes, I have bought some timber to build another ship, but I am yet to find the motivation to start, I have plans for the H. M.S. Beagle, I have been wanting to build it for a while, it was Charles Darwin expedition ship.

I am glad you had a nice day, and I am glad your son is finding his feet in this crazy world, I really wish him all the success, music is a beautiful thing he has the gift of sound and he is sharing it, you must be so proud.

Re: Night Shift

The Beagle ... wow @Jacques... I read "Origin" a couple of years ago ... he had so much influence .. but really a practical man .. it all started just making his observations about birds in his backyard ... a bit like some else I know ... not mentioning names.

I am good. I slept a few hours this afternoon.

The boys didnt get into the finals, but my son was roped in to help his friend and it was all good experience, regardless.

It was a serious competition and they only prepared less than a month, but have become good friends ... and that may be worth a lot more than the prize money. His mum was overjoyed about them clicking ... I am too .. they met when we did some Opera in January. Today they put on a red-blooded young males show; full of testosterone version of Schubert's "The Earl King". I had to hang on to my seat, before that was a very sensitive, moody rendition of "The Doppelganger." Great contrast.

Do you know the 2 songs?

Re: Night Shift

Yes he was a controversial figure and his ship has historical significance, that is why I wanted to build one. I would like to build the entire first fleet and give it to a museum, but I don't know if I will ever get their, the baegel will have to be given away because I have no where to put it, I just hope it will go to a good home.

Wow you must be so excited and proud, he is making new connections and friends too, wow he is really coming into his own, it must be so nice to see after all the hard work and worrying about him.

No sorry @Appleblossom, I have not heard the songs, I will look them up tomorrow. I am looking forward to hearing them 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Appleblossom

Yes - you must be feeling at home - I found a lot of punctuation marks in a little heap at the bottom of my screen - now I know how they got there (tee hee)

And I live in a unit - the units here are in semi-detached pairs and apart from each other and we are all pretty quiet - it's a bit like a little park here. I'll get around to posting some pics eventually

The party was over the road - I don't begrudge the party - just the fact I had it the same time as the headache. I have chronic pain syndrome - in my spine - but I didn't take that medication for the headache - I took an antihistmine - my sinuses get stuffy - it feels better today

Are your headaches migraine - they can be really bad - I hope you have some treatment for them - but yes - you have to be careful what you take when a pain is chronic

And @Jacques is a great guy - you are right - he can't see himself as we do - and I must find that model boats he made - I love sailing ships - I have two prints of sailing ships as well as a model in my seaside away from the sea collection of those things

This is a great website - I am so glad I found it

Re: Night Shift

Yes Jacques - some people are more sensitive to noise than other people

I have some great ear plugs - you squish them up with your fingers and put them in your ears and they expand and shut most of the noise out.

And because they expand they are easy to remove too

I am a tolerant person - but why do people need to share their music so late at night?

I play a compicated game last night - it's one of those with a lot of different levels - I might have to find some other people to play it with to find out how to get through some of the games that seem impossible - not just the hard ones. Luckily I can jump around the different levels as I chose - but they get harder and harder

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Appleblossom,

Wow i just listened to Schuberts Tehe king earl and The Doppelganger, wow, they are amazing, i love Schuberts Ave Maria, it brings a tear to my eye every time.

Gosh you are so lucky to have such beautiful music around you.

I hope today treats you well, take care my friend.

Re: Night Shift

@Jacques

I love classical music - and also I played the piano - starting when I was a child - and my Gran taught me and it was so easy to learn with such a fantastic teacher

And I taught myself to play the guitar - and now I am thrilled to bits that my daughter is learning to play the guitar - I never thought she would take it up - and she has

So I am hoping she does some gigs - I used to - there is something great about the memories we have from the time when life was less difficult -

I'm interested in boats as well - I wrote about my prints of sailing ships - I would like to make a ship in a bottle - I really am intrigued as to how they do that.

This is the first time I actually downloaded an app - I mean a really complex game - and I am still working on this one. I am really into it - but it might help to find other people who play it too - they might be able to help me with some that are more than hard - they seem to be impossible

But I have been playing games on Facebook for years - and really I have only been competing with myself

And yes - it is a really sunny day today - and I must try and get out for a walk and enjoy it

Re: Night Shift

Wow @Decadian, i never learned to play music, i only listen to it, i love all genres of music except country.

Here is a photo of a commissioned boat i made for mum's friend, the H.M.S. Bounty, it has all 4 levels showing, it took me a year and a half to build, it was my first boat i built, i have been building them ever since, i can't build them now though becuase my hands shake too much, i built it in 2006.

I hope you like it, their are other boats i have made somewhere in the sane forums but i don't know where they are now.

I hope you come across them.

take care

Jacques
