Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

wow @PeppiPatty That is so lovely that they came to your house! I really hope that the mood stabilizer helps and things improve for you! You've been through a lot in just the year that i've had getting to know you. Hope you did end up getting Arlo out for his walk on the beach.

Hi @Appleblossom im sorry to hear that you are feeling so low as well. Seems like there is so much going on for everyone at the moment. How did your salad turn out with the sweet potatoe? My kids both love sweet potatoe (not to mention peter Rabbit!) so we eat a fair bit of it with a range of meals but hadnt thought of it as a salad. I always think of you when i teach choir. Today my kids sang a beautiful harmony to a torres strait islander song called Bananas (funny name i know, but its quite a nice tune). hope that you are still getting some enjoyment from your music.

Hi @Mazarita I'm glad that we can just be us here too, no need to hide or feign that extra energy here (phew - i've not got much to spare!) I hope that things pick up for you soon too. Have you got any media projects on the go at the moment?

@Drac0 and @Shaz51 I've been trying to get a picture of my kitten but she's being a pain, she's always sooking up way too close lol! her favourite spot is on my shoulder purring loudly in my ear... which is a very soothing sound to ground to at times, but painful when i forget she's there and move and she digs her claws in! My daughter is desperate to get a python!! I would love one too lol but i've said not till she's 8 which gives me about 6 months to get a vivarium/pod for one.

I saw my dr tonight who suggested that working isnt really good for my wellbeing. but has left it up to me to think about what i want. sigh. decisions, consequences all nothing i want to think about right now. oh well!

Hugs to everyone

LJ

Re: Night Shift

Thanks Maz

yes About the pics. It made me think I should try and get my act into gear to be able to take photos and post them online ... still havent done it yet.

Was looking at online kitchen store and seeing lots of electrical appliances. My nanna had a lot of the stuff and that is 2 generations behind. I think I am stuck in a weird "I dont deserve anything loop" and too exhausted to keep getting things fixed. I have already kept things really simple, but endured so many digs I dont have, or choose not have many standard things like a microwave or a dryer for good rational greenie reasons.

Anyway it was weird seeing a mixmaster, coffee grinder, meat grinder and electric frypans etc and remember how proud I was to help her do things with them when I lived with her. 40 years on I dont believe I am worth having those kind of things, let alone regular hairdresser visits, or a home at all.

Still havent fully acted on oven replacement. Maybe I will have the money next month, maybe not, some other urgent expense. I am pretty detached from it all... but I have to be careful not to get too detached.

@Former-Member, it's lovely to hear you talking about your choir. The song sounds wonderful. I wish I could hear it. Yes, I've had little media projects going all this time since I put together those two with @PeppiPatty's writing. Coming to the end of one now.

@Appleblossom, I'd love to see your photos. Like you, I keep life very simple. I try to be content with this. But I know what you mean about feeling we don't deserve things. I rarely go to the hairdressers either. That part of it is depression I think. But I also agree that not driving, for example, is a way of contributing less to global warming. No microwave here either. The place came with a dryer we've never used. Everyone deserves a home.

Re: Night Shift

Dear Peppi The book was "Mateship with Birds". I just read "The Strays" set in Melbourne, but I am wondering if you read "The Light between Oceans"? Its set in Southern WA and its story was very meaningful to me about motherhood and the crazy things that people do under stress. See Maz ... its not just me who thinks you have a calming influence.
