Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

So far so good.

Re: Night Shift

That sounds like a good plan. I still find prevention of relapse a challenge at times, especially spending time with one close friend and the way she does it. It's funny because the one other friend I have who's still doing it in front of me it doesn't bother me at all. The hotline and workbook also help with potential relapse issues.

Re: Night Shift

It seems like we have a lot of common ground.

Yes, it does seem like we have common ground.

Interesting what you say about the friends still doing it. I am pretty much surrounded by it in my small social circle here.

Re: Night Shift

That's one of the hardest challenges but if you prepare yourself you can have a list of all the reasons you don't want to do it and another list of the benefits of not doing it to look at before you see them. I've found though that a lot of those people simply dropped out of my life when I stopped - it makes me look at the nature of the friendships all along. It was hard but over time I've come to see that I'm better off in many ways and the few active friendships I have now aren't based on that. The true friends will respect your efforts and do it away from you and do other things with you.

What you see makes good sense. A couple of these are very long and close relationships that I don't see ending. I like the idea of the list of reasons. It's great that you have been able to change your habits with it, gives me more hope too.

Think of all the things you will be able to do with the money you save too, especially if you beat both.

Re: Night Shift

That would be awesome! GP already prescribed me a good supply of nicotine patches. Did you know that is on a govt scheme too? You get a prescription and then just pay the usual pension fee at the chemist. Could be something to consider for the cigs.

I need to get to bed soon so will head off here soon. Another 10 min or so. Great chat again tonight. It is nice to have conversation with someone and not just another TV night alone.

Re: Night Shift

I tried the patches but they made me really hypomanic and the CAT team hotline told me to get off them. I was back to relatively normal within a day or so. I can't use champix either.
