Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

I'm kind of playing it up for all it's worth, @eth. What is happening here is my partner and I are on separate computers on either sides of the room. Occasionally we meet on the lounge chairs and have a bit of an exchange. We've been together for 12 years and describe ourselves as 'soloists', lol.

I was married on Halloween ... it was the first date that my hub's family could travel from a America ... I didnt know anything about it being Halloween ... he thought it weird but then agreed being a counter everything type of guy.

The catholic version of it is "All Souls" ... and I do prefer that than all the carry on ... but I couldnt dissappoint these cuties ... they worked hard at cossies ... or their mum did ... just kids from the street ...

I am tired cos only got a few hours sleep last night and up early so need to try to sleep ...

Hope you sleep well on All Souls @Appleblossom. Sounds like a peaceful religious date. I'll have to look it up.

Goodnight @Appleblossom

@Mazarita My best friend and I are lovers and we've been involved for 10 years but we live apart. He likes living alone in the bush while I like being on the edge of town and close to the services I use. He's fantastic company when we are together and I have come to see the advantages of our situation. We just call each other mates!

Re: Night Shift

Cool that it works well for you like that @eth. I've had different kinds of relationships too, including a marriage and a four year open relationship. I suppose I could describe myself as bisexual but mostly straight. It's all just labels really... Whatever works is great in my book. Ours is a wonderful relationship in so many ways and it sounds like yours is too.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita these days I am straight but did have a few relationships with women too when I was younger. At one stage I was in a 3some for a few months with a man and a woman and boy did I feel like I was the cat that got the cream for a while. Unfortunately it didn't work out for us as the other woman was more strongly into being gay and the separation was very sad as I still loved them both but she felt like she had to be apart from us. So long ago!

I was involved in a kind of threesome relationship too for about six months. Then I needed to move into a place of my own but couldn't afford it anymore where I lived, so moved up here, throwing the dice in a way. A bit hairy for the first year I was here and then met partner and things have worked out. I'm still friends with the couple I was involved with, at a distance.

Re: Night Shift

I was never into labelling myself either. It amazes me how the language about sexual preference and gender identity has developed since my hey day. My kids are doing their best to educate me. I've always been very open-minded and ok about anyone's right to choose, but I was nowhere as aware as I imagined once my adult child came out as being agender. But they say growing up around various options instead of one set of definitions about what's ok has helped them recognize where they are at and what they want and how many choices are possible.

Re: Night Shift

I haven't heard of agender before. I'm not very politically correct in some ways, or up with it. But, like you, I'm open to people's personal choices including myself. But I like being able to talk to you about this because I guess in my real life I am now a bit 'closeted'. Not just in terms of sexuality but in general, related to that depression we were talking about last night. How are you feeling tonight after the late one last night?

BTW, I'm looking up 'Halloween' on Wikipedia as we are speaking. It has this to say about it...

All Hallows' Eve is a Christianized feast influenced by Celtic harvest festivals, with possible pagan origins, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain.

Re: Night Shift

On page 10 of this thread there's an explanation I gave Appleblossom last night re agender.

Interestingly today is also known as 'The Day of The Dead' in Mexico. Looking up things like Samhain can lead you on a really interesting google trail. But who knows where trick or treat came into the whole celebration?
