hello everyone, im not really sure what im after. advice.. support...guidance.....

im a carer for my pop and has had to have a test done that was orginally thought a thyroid problem as hes had those in the past but since then have discovered a lump on his pancreas so hes jsut had one of those ct things where the dyes injected and now just awaiting results. and then he went to the drs today and now they want to do a lung biopsy. hes not too worried about it but im doing enough worrying for both of us and more.

Re: worried

hey everyone so the next big hurdle in the 14th of january for an MRI

im wondering though as most/all of you deal with someone with a mh condition, i think my pop is starting to show signs of early alzheimers or dimentia. the problem is my pop gets upset if i even meantion it so im wondering if anyone knows a way that i could possibly speak to his gp, and see what he thinks or to perform a memory test or anything but without saying it was my idea sort of thing..

is 77 too young to get a condition like this? im wondering if its boredom rather than a mh thing

what are you thoughts?

Re: worried

Yes, Sadly, its very on the cards @outlander

The GP has probably already thought about it, but that is the best place for you to get information as to whether its worth pursuing it. As your pop has a complex set of health and care needs it is tricky. Most people dont want to admit losing their marbles. Is there any way you can be light hearted about it with him. Then he might not get as defensive. Not sure ?? WHen we love we are totally involved in trying for best outcome. Look after you, while you look after him.

I have had a hard day myself. One of my cats died today. My mamma's boy. My cats gave me so much healing when they were kittens and I was in a lot of pain. I just cuddled them for hours and they helped me smile and gave hope. I think it was kidney failure. He was 15 and had a good full life.

Re: worried

Thats the thing. No one else notices it and he doesnt do it at the drs which is why in wondering if hes bored with his everyday routine. He will teel me the same thing 6 or 7 times a day every single day but when abit if his routine changes he gets upset but he doesnt talk about the same thing over again. Hes suppose to be going to his mates house thats a few hrs away for 3 days. He goes abit but when he gets back he tells me what he done alot until his routines back.

Ive told him a few times gently 'youve told me that a few times' and he said oh ok well im just telling u again.

Its mixed and not sure sure. Abit confused really.

Aww im sorry to hear about your cat. 15yrs though is really good! Sending some comforting hugs 💕💕 @Appleblossom

Re: worried

Hugz much appreciated. @outlander

What you just described is very like my gf with dementia and her daughter go thru ... a lot .. everyday.

I dont have to deal with it as much .... and so I shrug off the repetitions ... I dont let them get to me tho now I am more on the watch ...

Also memory of the past is often stronger memory of the present. It can be good to have a few times to go through old stuff or photos. At least it is nicer and good company.

I guess your pop really needs the stability of routine and might fall apart if there were too many changes. Can you just make an appointment to go and see his GPas a carer and explain your concerns. They can Listen and take on what you have to say, without telling you anything and compromising his confidentiality.

It makes it harder if he does not recognise it and co-operate.

77 is a very good innings too. Something to be proud of.

@outlander

I was a bit worried I was too blunt last night with you, but all I can do is reach out with honest care and share and hope for the best.

I know you have a lot on your plate.

Re: worried

@Appleblossomi didnt think you were blunt at all.... and thank you. no need to worry. sometimes its hard to understand things that arent straight to the point in regards to caring as im still quite lost with it tbh. i just kinda go with the flow.

thanks for your advice, its given me a better idea on how to handle it now. first get through xmas then speak to his gp after his specialist results are back in.

you have alot on your plate too so much appreciated with your response

is 77 too young to get a condition like this ??? No @outlander, you can get it when you are younger than that

the problem is my pop gets upset if i even meantion it , Yes because they think they are losing their marbles too and when someone has anything they don`t want to admit it

sounds like he has his moments at this time , so patience and love my little sister @outlander

and sending you lots of hugs
