New

New to this forum. A big deal for me trying to cope for years. It feels from browsing this forum that you know one another. That is both comforting an intimidating. Not sure where to start from here. Just this is a last resort for me. I'm lucky I have friends and family who rate me far beyond what I deserve. Which only makes me feel like a fake. "You're clever" no I'm stupid. You're nice. no I'm a cow. Can't see myself in a positive light. Not fishing for sympathy I just really can't see it

Re: New

@Leah12I suffer from anxiety, depressions and PTSD. Unfortunately it is not a quick fix. I hope you find some like minded people on here, I am sure that you will. Shop around for a counsellor that is the best fit for you, bit like try before you buy. Hopefully you will find one that is right for you. I am lucky that I have found a psych that "gets me" extrememly well and can make sense of all the stuff I tell him every week! So don't give up on that front.

Sorry to hear about your mother, are you a carer for her? I looked after my father for 6 years with a terminal illness so understand what you are going through. It sounds like you have an enormous amount placed on your shoulders at the moment. What support are you getting?

Re: New

Support. Um. I have my meds. I talk to friends to a certain point but I don't want to overwhelm friends who have their own problems with my issues so have kept it to myself. I'm sure they'd be supportive but I can't seem to talk. I don't want to me a burden.

I'm not my mothers sole carer but seeing her going from someone who was up at 6 and super busy to someone who can't do much and has aged a lot has been hard.

I have a lot of financial commitments so finding the right counsellor has been a challenge. I'm hoping for the best though. I graduate in 6 weeks

Re: New

@Leah12that first paragraph could have been my writing. Beside my psych and my hubby (well he knows some but not all) I havent told anyone. Don't want to burden my friends with my problems. Also the guilt and shame and embarassment of having a mental illness stops me from telling people.

It is hard to watch someone you love go downhill. My father went from strong man to sitting in a chair on oxygen 24 hrs a day. It is super hard and my heart goes out to you.

I listen to alot of music but alot of classical or music with no words. I find alot of music (and tv) are triggers for my anxiety so limit what I am exposed too.

Wow, graduate in 6 weeks, that is exciting. Well done!

Re: New

Thank you for your reply. You can't know how much I needed to hear all that. I think like anyone struggling with mental illness you feel alone and to have someone say hey me too means a lot xx

Re: New

@Leah12that is the good thing about this forum, you are never alone. There are lots of people dealing with a lot on here, but the support is there if you want it. I actually find it a bit like therapy. Even though I am going through a lot myself, to be able to hellp and support someone else feels super good and you will find a lot of people feel the same way.

Re: New

I know what you mean. I feel best when I help others but asking for help myself is hard so this forum means a lot. My situation is not better than worse than others but people who understand on some level means a lot.

Re: New

a quick hello, @Former-Member @Leah12

Just out of bed for a few minutes-teeth grinding so bad my jaw so painful tonight-to get pain relief and have a decaf.

I can sooo relate to keeping the CSA hidden for so many years and relying on meds to get by. I don't really have friends so have kept everything inside until the last couple of years. I cared for my father/ one of the perps ***don't mean to trigger anyone****** who was diagnosed with cancer and passed away when I was 14. And for the past 14/15 years have cared for my chronically ill husband as well as work, but the work gives me my socialisation, so that's a good thing.

I enjoy early 70s music, not disco, Mark Vincent, Adele, Aston (classically trained musicians who do covers of music from the last 30 years), among others.

Heading back to bed. Have a good sleep everyone.
