Threads!

I have begun this thread more as an observation than as a discussion topic or extended conversation.

I have seen members talking about 'their' threads alot lately - but I think it is important to remember that this is a PUBLIC forum and we need to keep making sure it is an inviting and safe place for everyone.

Please do not feel that any of this is directed at any of us in particular (me included) because it definitely is not - there have been many more people that have mentioned 'their' thread in conversations. I think we do it without thinking because of how comfortable we are with each other - and feeling 'comfortable' with each other is a good thing!

But… Nobody 'owns' a thread - we may start and/or keep to particular threads but anyone is welcome - and encouraged - to read, post, respond and support each other when and where they feel comfortable to do so - and part of that comfortability - and allowing both longer term and newer members to feel safe on any thread - is in both keeping threads on topic (as much as we can) and not alluding to any thread as 'belonging' to any one member.

I understand that members often 'gravitate' towards certain topics, threads and/or members that they are more familiar/comfortable/connected with - that is a natural progression on such a large forum and is in-fact human nature. I do get concerned however - particularly for 'new' members - that when people start talking about 'their' threads that it can deter others from participating in discussions that they may find beneficial to their circumstances because they may feel like they are 'intruding' or that particular thread is not an 'open' thread.

All I am asking here really is that we keep being mindful that this is an open and public forum and it is our responsibility as members to keep it a safe and accessible place to come, connect and support each other through what are often really difficult times.

There is nowhere else like this forum - the compassion, the care, the connections, the support and the amazing feeling of community - sometimes we just need a little reminder to keep this all on track
